4.5 ‘I love Randy Balls’ stars

Rude, crude, hilarious, completely inappropriate and sexy as all hell, this series is so much fun! Add in wonderfully endearing (and totally filterless) characters and a love story with heart, and this is a fantastic read. Definitely my favourite of the series so far.

Randy Ballistic is a hot, bearded, manwhoring ice hockey player. He’s the best friend of Miller from [book:Pucked Up|25700862] (book #2), and is living his dream playing hockey, hanging with his buddies and enjoying complication-free sex with a string of puck bunnies.

Lily LeBlanc is the best friend of Sunny and was introduced in Pucked Up where she and Randy shared an insta-attraction and some intense, intimate moments. She is just coming out of a 7 year long relationship which she’s coming to realise was actually pretty toxic and is keen to have a bit of fun, and who better than the manwhoring hockey player with whom she shares a sizzling chemistry?

Randy knows about Lily’s break up (in fact he had a front row seat to it), and he’s more than happy to be her rebound – hot sex with the girl he can’t stop thinking about, with no expectations? Perfect! And so the two embark on the hottest hook up of both of their lives! The sex is hot, explicit, and just a little bit dirty, and it rocks both of their worlds (and maybe a little bit of mine). In their heads they know that nothing is going to come of it, but despite the difficulties of distance, work, and the constant parade of puck bunnies, they manage to hook up again and again.

“All night long, Lily. I’m gonna be inside you every fucking minute you’re here with me.”
“Sounds like a good time.” I say, and then, because I just can’t help myself, “But it’ll probably get a little awkward when we’re sleeping.”

I love this kind of relationship set up. Randy and Lily are wild for each other and they fall into an easy pattern of flirting, joking, sexting and crazy-intense sex whenever they get together – and importantly, remaining faithful to each other while they are apart. And as they get to know each other, they pretty much slip into a relationship without realising it.

“I thought I was just gonna be your rebound. I didn’t expect it to turn into something else.”

But what happens when they actually start to admit that what they are feeling has gone way beyond a casual hook up? Can they overcome everything keeping them apart, and Randy’s fear of true intimacy to find their happy ever after?

“I told her to tell me if things got too intense, but I have no idea what to do with myself.”

I’ve gotta say, I wasn’t a huge fan of Lily in the last book, but I loved the chance to get to know her in her own book. She’s had a difficult life, had to give up her dream and is working two jobs just to get by, but she’s a sweetheart, very relatable, and really funny. She’s got some growing to do, which is really nicely done through the story, and I liked her immediately.

“His deep voice makes my insides liquid, but not Ebola liquid, sexy liquid. I can practically feel his body heat behind me.”

And Randy is just… OMG. The manwhore with a heart of gold may be a bit clichéd in romance novels, but there’s a reason that it works, and I can’t get enough of it. Randy has his own emotional issues which leave him reluctant to the idea of a relationship, but he’s such a great guy – funny, sexy-as-sin (with out of this world stamina!), sweet and vulnerable, I love him, I love that we get his POV, and I loved watching his journey as he wrestled with his feelings for Lily.

“You’re the most beautiful thing in my life.”

This is such a fun read! The sex is hot, the humour is frequent, crude and wildly inappropriate, the emotional is beautifully written and the love story builds perfectly throughout the story. There’s a lot of interaction with the characters from earlier books – I loved seeing Miller in the position to offer romantic advice, and of course Violent is as whacked and completely filterless as always. They’re such a fun group all together, and I laughed out loud so many times at their antics. And then there’s the lead up to Lance’s book – OMG that looks like it’s going to be a fantastic story! I can’t wait for that one.

I absolutely loved this one, and look forward to more from Randy and Lily as the series continues.

4.5 stars.
