3 stars!

Together, we would only bring chaos.

Moonshot by Alessandra Torre is a second chance romance that has all the feels. It’s sweet and sexy with a large dose of angst and a bit of mystery.

Ever since she was seven years old, Tyler has lived and breathed baseball. Her father plays for the Yankees and when her mother passes away she goes on the road with her father. The Yankees are a tight unit and everyone looks out for each other.

I loved them all. I would do anything for those forty guys. And they would fight to their end for me. This team was my family, my soul. And I think that was what made everything that happened so damn complicated.

Tyler is seventeen years old the day Alex is traded to the New York Yankees. Alex is immediately smitten with Tyler and she is just as taken with him. There something that draws them together and Alex is completely different with Tyler.  As they spend more time together, we see the excitement and butteflies of a first love – an innocent, beautiful love that became everything to them.

“I’m going to marry you one day, Ty Rollins,” he said softly, gently tucking my hair behind one ear, and my heart stopped.

It was perfect. More than I’d ever dreamed of.

Young love is never easy though and we see how one haste decision can rip their love apart, destroying everything that could have been.

Fast forward four years.

Alex is traded back to the Yankees and neither Tyler or Alex are prepared to see each other after so long. They are not the same people as they were when they were younger and the encounter causes everything in their past to come rushing back. The tension, emotion, and love they each fought to eliminate from their hearts are now in the forefront and only complicates their lives.

Certain loves can’t be fought. The harder you tried, the harder you would be knocked back, over and over again, until it beat you into submission, until your heart caved and body surrendered. Love like that didn’t know the rules of society; it didn’t care about life mistakes. It only knew what must be, and what would happen—no matter what.

Tyler and Alex have a hard road ahead of them if they want their HEA. Is their love strong enough to overcome all the obstacles in their way?

Torre’s writing flows beautifully across the pages drawing you into every scene and setting a mood that makes you feel every thing the characters feel. I really liked how everything played out in the end even though there are things about this book that really bugged me. But more about that later.

Added to this emotional second-chance romance is a murder mystery that had me questioning everyone and though I was surprised in the end, it’s revelation fell short for me. The mystery was almost not needed and I would rather it have been focused more on the romance.

Alex was a sweet character who went all in when he fell hard for Tyler. I loved that he changed his ways when he met Tyler and that he was so committed to her.  He made me swoon and loved seeing his love for Tyler grow.  I hated the pain he went through when they fell apart and my heart broke for him.  I wanted to throttle Tyler for hurting him.

Tyler was a good girl that made major mistakes. She was naive and young and I couldn’t help but like her in the beginning. She started to frustrate me though as the book jump in time. She did not handle the situation she and Chase were in the way I would have wanted. Her love was deep though and I understand she felt she was doing the right thing.

I loved all the advice Tyler’s dad gave her throughout her lifetime and how he supported her.  I was happy that he was their for her the whole time.

And now my rant about what really bugged me…

Spoiler

There were two main reasons why I didn’t rate Moonshot higher and both were things I don’t love in books. The first is the miscommunication that lead to the decision that ultimately ruined Tyler and Chase’s relationship. I felt it was out of character for Tyler to lose her virginity the way she did. She acted immaturely and was quick to react without getting any details. Had she taken a minute to talk to him they wouldn’t have run into trouble later on in their relationship. On a positive note, when asked about it she was up front with him with what she did.

The other reason I had trouble with this book was the cheating. Tobey was good to her. He loved her, supported her, and adored her. She doesn’t condone cheating but that’s exactly what she does and she knows what she is doing is wrong. When she is with Alex, she is cheating on her husband and though that isn’t always an issue for me when she is cheating WITH the hero, I really hated that she slept with her husband after being with Chase and confessing her love for him. I know she is married but by sleeping with her husband after rekindling her relationship with Chase, she is cheating on Chase and that made me sick. There is also the fact that she avoided breaking up with her husband earlier for a reason that I didn’t think was fair to Chase.

Overall I did enjoy this book even though it wasn’t my favorite of Torre’s. I still loved the writing and will definitely continue to look forward to her new stories.

“Love has its own timeline, Tyler. Remember that.”
