Review

I loved this book. Funny and romantic with epic and highly inappropriate banter, Freda and Nicholas’ story is uniquely original and had me hooked from start to finish.

Freda is my favourite type of heroine – instantly likeable, big hearted, and imperfect but happy with who she is. She speaks her mind and has absolutely no filter, and I have a total girl-crush on her. When she meets her new neighbour – the sexy, funny, and charming Nicholas – the two of them have an immediate spark and Freda is stunned when he seems to be attracted to her. She knows this because Nicholas also has no filter, and he makes his feelings abundantly clear at every opportunity.

“You’re very pretty, Fred … I’d really like to fuck you”

The dynamic between Nicholas and Freda is gold! Their banter is epic (and usually of a highly sexual, totally inappropriate nature), they are constantly bouncing off each other and it flows effortlessly.

“The more the merrier, that’s what I always say. Except if it’s an orgy; you’ve got to be picky in matter of group sex.”
“Oh, I completely agree. You can never be too careful in a gang bang.”
“Sometimes you end up with too much gang and not enough bang,” says Nicholas.
“I’ve never had a taste for too much gang. I much prefer the latter,” I laugh.
“Ah, we have that in common then,” he replies in a low voice.

Freda hasn’t had much luck in the relationship department, and she knows that being with a manwhore like Nicholas would end up with her heart broken. But Nicholas is like nobody she has ever met and she wants him in her life, so they agree to be friends. And as friends, Nicholas invites Freda to one of his shows to see him perform, and that’s where she learns the truth about him.

“He’s a fucking drag queen.”

Yes, Nicholas is a straight man who dresses in drag and performs in a cabaret show as ‘Vivica Blue’. And he’s brilliant at it. Freda is immediately entranced, and I love how immediately accepting she is of this other side of Nicholas. She not only loves it, but she embraces it.

This is astounding, amazing, so incredibly thrilling. Only today a world travelling cabaret performing drag queen took me out for lunch and named me as his new best friend. The idea plunges my black and white world into a vibrant techni-colour rainbow.

Nicholas asks Freda to be his assistant, and of course she agrees, helping him prepare for shows, Freda and Nicholas soon find themselves spending a lot of time together, and they grow closer as their inappropriate and weirdly flirtatious friendship gets more and more intense.

“Well, how do I look?” he asks, turning his made up face from side to side. He looks like a really hot woman. It’s unsettling, but also titillating.
“If I was into girls, I’d do you,” I tell him honestly.
He leans forward conspiratorially. “Psst, I’ll let you in on a secret Fred,” he glances sheepishly from side to side. “I actually have a cock. Don’t tell anyone, it would ruin my reputation. But feel free to do me any time you want.”

I really liked Nicholas as a character. He is so unique in the world of romance, and to be honest I wasn’t sure if I’d fall for him, but fall for him I did! He’s so matter of fact about his life choices and the fact that he loves what he does, and it in no way reflects on his masculinity. It’s just the way he is, and he owns that. And his confidence in himself is incredibly sexy.

“So it’s not a fetish thing for you?”
He smirks. “Nope. Cross dressing is often related to sexual preference. I like to be a man in the bedroom, but a woman on the stage.”

The more time they spend together, the more their feelings for each other deepen, and the chemistry between them is ELECTRIC. There’s only so long they are able to resists.

His touch makes my body simultaneously melt and awaken. My senses go into overdrive. When you’re attracted to someone the way that I’m attracted to Nicholas, even the slightest whisper of his fingers against yours makes your body wake up and take notice.

Nicholas is as hot as hell. Obviously he’s a dirty talker, but he has the moves to back it up and this turned out to be quite the steamy read! But more than that, there is a true emotional connection between these two, and I loved watching them fall for each other. It’s a slow burn, and they have all sorts of hurdles to face as they find their way to each other, but the anticipation builds beautifully, and when it all comes together… DAYUM!

“I love you … It feels like nobody in the history of the world has loved another person as much as I love you. I love you so much it hurts. You make me smile, you make me laugh, you make me burn

This is such a beautiful love story. Freda and Nicholas both have their own demons, and watching them overcome that and find the courage to be together was really special.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be the man you deserve Freda.”
“You already are.”

I’m becoming a huge fan of L.H. Cosway. She’s done a great job with this book, giving us an original and engaging story featuring great characters, lots of laughs, heartfelt emotion and a romance that is beautifully sweet and highly passionate.

I loved it – 4.5 Funny, sexy and uniquely beautiful stars.
