This novella is a bit of a mix-match of multiple stories occurring within the A Pound of Flesh world, so it’s definitely one that you need to read as part of this series (and in order) and not as a standalone.

First, we have Max and Grace – picking up their story from the conclusion of An Ounce of Hope. I love these two, and I love that we got to see more of them together, happy and in love.

Then Carter and Kat’s story continues, and is the main focus of the book. They are now happily married and moving forward together, but there are still some hiccups they need to overcome and honestly, I was disappointed with the way it all happened. I was so pissed at Carter. I could understand his concerns but he handled the situation so badly and I wanted to reach into my kindle and smack him. It all works out of course, and shows more of their grown together as a couple, but I just hated seeing them go through that much drama when it really wasn’t necessary.

And then there’s Riley. Hints have been dropped about his story, and there’s more of that here as he rallied behind his friend to offer support. I’m really looking forward to his book up next.

Overall, this was a good read. I’ve grown very attached to these characters and enjoyed seeing more of them and following them through the highs and lows of their relationships. And as always, Sophie Jackson’s writing was fantastic as she got us right into the heart and soul of these characters, I just wish there wsan’t so much drama.

3 stars.
