Review

“Swear to God, these boys should be locked up. It isn’t safe, men with that much testosterone coursing through their blood free to roam.”

AMEN SISTER!

6 MASSIVE STARS!!!

This book is absolutely sensational! Without question, the best of the Rock Chick books so far. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, and at one point I even jumped up and down squeeing like an idiot. Yes, it’s embarrassing to admit that but those who know me, or those who have read these books, will totally understand.

So this is going to be a really long, ranty review and I really don’t know where to start so forgive me if I’m a bit all over the place.

Firstly – Ava. Simply, she rocks. Yes she has issues (and annoying little ‘Good’ and ‘Bad’ Avas that sit on her shoulders and give advice), and behaves stupidly for the first half of the book, but I absolutely love her attitude which shines throughout the whole story.

Secondly – Luke. This is a massive call to make (particularly as I haven’t read the whole series yet), but Luke is my favourite of the Rock Chick men. He is simply AMAZING! Hot as all hell of course, intensely protective and an all-out-Alpha, but there is a totally swoony, soft side there and you can see it all the way through the book as he deals with Ava, who has held a special place in his heart since their childhood. And to top it all off, he has a filthy, dirty mouth, and a number of times I was screaming to the room around me “No, he did NOT just say that!!” (luckily I was home alone at the time). As Shirleen so eloquently put it – “I’d pay a man to talk to me that way”. Oh, and he calls Ava Babe (I LOVE that!).

The steam factor between these two is intense! It takes a bit for them to get ‘there’, although there are lots of steamy moments that take place before the big event. At about 40% into the book I swear I was as frustrated as Luke! But then the breakthrough finally happens, and all I can say is… DAMN! And the sizzle continues on for the rest of the book.

I loved that it didn’t take until the end of the book for Luke and Ava to sort their issues out so we got to see them together as a couple, particularly as there is a bit more drama in this book than in the others, and watching them deal with the events and the fall out of those events was heart breaking, but also beautiful. The scenes where they work things out are so beautifully written and Luke, for all of his badass-ness, was so gentle, tender and loving with Ava. I was in tears!!!!

“I’m not stupid, I know your heart’s involved in this and I’ve never, not once in all the time you’ve known me, given you the idea that I won’t handle it with care.”

And I was in tears again when Ava finally accepted that she was Luke’s and stopped behaving so ridiculously stupid.

“Daisy said to me that I was trying to find ways to protect my heart but I was doing it wrong. She told me the best way to protect my heart was to trust it to someone who will protect it for me”.
More silence but his body went completely still.
“That’s you. It’s always been you.”

And then there’s the banter. Nobody does banter better than Kristen Ashley – particularly when half of the bantering is coming from a Badass Alpha. This phone call was a classic…

“Did you pay for the repairs on my Range Rover?” I asked him.
“Yeah.”
“Why?”
“Why not?” he answered.
I felt my hold on my temper slip.
“Luke, it’s my car.”
“Ava, you’re my woman.”
I ignored the melty feeling that gave me too.
“So?”
“So you’re my woman, I take care of you.”
“Luke – “
“This isn’t up for discussion.”
“It sure as hell is!”
“I’m thinkin’, as payback for the hickey, I want you in that pink teddy thing tonight.”
Was he for real?
“Luke!”
“Later.”
Disconnect.
Argh!

The Rock Chicks and Hot Bunch were all heavily involved, and brilliant as always, and taking bets on when Luke and Ava would move in together, and when Luke and Ava would ‘do the business’. Classic! I love how Ashley pokes fun at the events of previous books.

The group of characters is growing, with more new faces appearing in this one. And we also get to see some progression on previous couples in the series – all very swoony. We also get a particularly intense few scenes with Lee. His moment was very heroic, and then he bought out the sweetness and it just melted me!! Then he became a total badass again and I loved that too. Oh I’ve missed that man!!

Just to finish up… a quick shout-out to the car chase scene – it was an absolute riot! I was laughing so hard I was crying and had to put my kindle down to recover before I read on… only to have to do it again later. I loved how everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) was involved, Ava was full of attitude throughout the whole thing and the highlight of the scene, for me, was the conversation she had with Luke while it was all going down. (Names have been removed so it’s not too spoilery).

The phone at my ass started ringing, I leaned forward and pulled it out.
“Don’t answer that,” (someone) ordered.
“Fuck you,” I shot back, saw the display said ‘Luke calling’ and flipped it open.
“Yo.”
“Babe,” Luke replied.
“I’ve been kidnapped again,” I informed him.
“I know. I’m following.”

And that’s just the start of it!

I seriously cannot get enough of these books! They are laugh-out-loud funny, full of action, completely swoony and packed with a great bunch of Rock Chicks and smoking hot Alpha-badasses. If you haven’t read a Rock Chick book yet – DO IT! DO IT NOW!!!
