4 “worth the risk” stars!

Matty might have been my biggest risk, but he is sure as hell the best reward a girl could ever have.

Jockblocked, another NA sports romance by Jen Frederick, is a fun, sweet book with a little bit of drama and a whole lot of swoon. It is the second book in the Gridiron series but can be read as a standalone.

We first meet Lucy in a coffee shop while preparing for the mock trial that is approaching quickly. She is determined to lead her teammates to the championships and walk away with the win. She has no time for distractions, especially one like the delicious Matt who has invaded her study space and has started occupying her thoughts.

Matt is the defensive linebacker for the Western football team. He too has no time for distractions during the season, but when he sets his sights on the blond haired beauty something sparks inside of him. Lucy has caught his attention and he hasn’t wanted a girl this bad in a while.

I’ve hungered for wins on the field, championships, success, but never a person. Not until Luce.

It’s not just a one-night stand he is looking for, he actually wants to get to know her which is the completely opposite of his man-whore reputation. But when most woman would jump on the opportunity to get to know Matt, Lucy has no issue shooting him down from the start.

As Matt begins showing up all over campus and the run-ins become more frequent, he starts to get under Lucy’s skin. Something about him has latched on and she cannot stop thinking of him. Lucy enjoys being around Matt and he brings out something inside of her. The connection they have can’t be denied and sparks easily fly.

I really enjoyed Jockblocked. The characters were well developed, and they were great not only individually but also fantastic together. The slow burn between Lucy and Matt was believable and the relationship was sweet. I found myself invested in these characters and rooting for their HEA.

Lucy was loyal, honest, supportive, and caring and I adored her. I loved her drive to succeed and though it took a little while for her to take a chance on Matt, I was thrilled when she did. I loved that she was an individual and that she had no qualms about saying what was on her mind, and I loved how sassy she was.

I really liked Matt. He was so sweet and I loved that he was completely in from the start. He wanted Lucy and was not scared to put his feelings out there. He was committed to her and the way he cared for her and always wanted to make sure she was doing well was heartwarming. I loved the things that came out of his mouth, whether they were sweet…

“For Masters, he said it was immediate. First time he saw Ellie, his wife, he told me the earth moved. I didn’t realize the earth was moving when I saw you the first time. I didn’t realize everything in my life was changing because it happened slowly. One meal, one conversation, one kiss at a time.”

or freakin’ hot…

“Let me tell you how this is going to work. I’m going to eat you out, then I’m going to slap on a rubber and fuck you until you’re coming so hard you can’t stand up. You let me know if there’s any part of this plan you don’t like.”

And Matt’s caveman thoughts cracked me up on several occasions…

I take Lucy’s coat and hang it on the hook, placing mine on top of it. There. It’s my jacket covering hers. Not Ace’s. Not the Ken doll’s from the coffee store. Mine.
Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine.
I’m an only child. I don’t like to share. Won’t share. Don’t believe in sharing.

Overall, this was a fantastic book and I definitely recommend it! While you’re at it, grab Sacked too, it’s the first book in the series and another great read.

*On a side note, I listened to the audiobook of Jockblocked and thoroughly enjoyed it!
