Review

This is a short but intense read which proves that even in novella form, Kit Rocha can write an exciting, compelling story, while still leaving plenty of time for the O’Kanes get down and dirty. Hell yeah!

Noah and Emma were introduced in the last book of the series, but they never actually saw each other. But even from just their names being mentioned in brief conversation with both of them individually, you know that there’s a history there and some serious chemistry between them.

Emma is a member of the O’Kane Gang. She’s had a difficult life, but has finally found her home and peace among the wildly debauched, although fiercely loyal O’Kanes.

Noah lives his life in hiding. As a talented hacker, his skills are wanted by everybody, but he lives his life on his own terms, with two goals – bring down the corrupt leader of Sector Five, and protect the life of Emma, the younger sister of his dead best friend, and the girl he wants but can’t have.

When Dallas pulls Noah into Sector Four for a job, he uses Emma as his bargaining chip to get him there, and from the moment these two see each other again, the feelings they have always had for each other come screaming to the surface.

“I’ve never wanted you to hurt at all. You were always the bright spot in my world.”

Yeah, there’s a lot of deep and meaningful, but there’s also a whole lot of this…

He cupped her face as she stilled, his thumbs rubbing back and forth along her cheek with a gentleness that softened the harsh need in his eyes. “I want to fuck you so damn hard.”
The combination of tenderness and lust undid her.
Deep. Now. She pushed at his shoulders, lifted her body, and angled her hips… “Take it, Noah.” The strangled plea sounded far away, like it hadn’t come from her lips. “Fucking take it.”

Noah has always liked his sex dirty, and Emma’s time with the O’Kane’s has opened her right up to all things smutty, and once again there is all kinds hotness – and they both like it hard and rough, with plenty of dirty talk. And with Emma and Noah having strong feelings for each other from the very beginning, and being very open about that, there is a really strong emotional element to it which makes it all the more intense.

She was his. Good or bad, twisted or wrong, she was his, and he closed the last few steps with a hungry groan, buried his bruised hands in her hair, and kissed her.

*fans self*

But with Noah concealing a painful secret from the past, and the ruthless Mac Flemming of Sector Five gunning for him – and by extension, Emma – there are some big issues that they need to deal with, and it all ties in brilliantly to the power struggle in the sectors and the continuing story arc of the series.

I really liked this one. It’s short but powerful, and there’s a lot of emotion mixed in with the sexual and political goings on. It’s actually a really beautiful love story.

“Fucking hell.” He smoothed her hair back with shaking fingers before turning to kiss her cheek. “All those years wasted, when I could have been loving you.”
The answer was easy, obvious. “You were.”
He choked on a laugh and coaxed her head back, urging her to meet his eyes. “Fine, then. All those wasted years, I could have been being loved.”
“You were that, too.”

I loved Noah and Emma and am looking forward to seeing more of them in future books.

4 stars.
