4.5 “Oh, Brou” Stars!

Tap is the first book in the new Lovibond series written by Georgia Cates, and the first book of hers that I have read. I love reading about forbidden romances and I got sucked into the book right away when I was introduced to Lucas and Lawrence.

Meet Lucas Broussard (aka Tap, aka Brou) – a gorgeous, hardworking entrepreneur with a sexy Cajun accent. He’s an all around good guy who had a rough few years a while back. His past has lead him to his current stance on relationships and he has no desire to change his ways.

Stout makes me sound like a colossal dickhead. But he isn’t wrong. I have a four-step routine when it comes to dating.
One: I fuck a woman.
Two: She clings. Every. Time. Because that’s what they do.
Three: I call it quits.
Four: End of story.
I’m not a manwhore. Well, maybe I am a little.

Along with his two business parters, Stout and Porter, Lucas has made Lovibond Brewing a complete success. They are great friends and would do just about anything for each other. The story begins with Stout needing a big favor from Lucas. Stout and his sister, Lawrence, had a difficult childhood and are extremely close, talking and texting daily. After getting a DUI, Stout must head to rehab and does not want Lawrence to know. This is where the favor comes in. Stout wants Lucas to impersonate him via text during the duration of his rehab stay so that Lawrence does not find out where he is. Lucas reluctantly agrees. Sounds easy enough, right? Wrong! Lucas hates texting and has no idea how to deal with Lawrence.

Stout’s phone dances like a little bastard on my desk. Again.
“Motherfucker.” It’s her again—the relentless texter. It’s Sunday. Doesn’t she ever give it a rest?

Pretending to be Stout proves to be more difficult than Lucas thought, prompting a surprise visit from Lawrence to check up on her brother.

Meet Lawrence Thorn (aka Lawry, aka Wren) – a free spirit who is sweet, independent, caring and totally protective of her little brother. She and Stout have been through so much together and they know each other better than anyone else. She notices a change in Stout through the text messages and the lack of calls she has received from him over the last few weeks. So, Lawrence pops into town unannounced looking for her brother. This is where she meets Lucas.

The instant attraction between Lucas and Lawrence is palpable, but Stout has made it clear that Lucas is to stay away from his sister. She is forbidden, and they honestly try to keep their hands off each other.

“I regret kissing you because it only makes me want you more. Which isn’t an option; you’re off limits to me.”

They give into their attraction and begin an intense relationship that they keep hidden from Stout and everyone else. Despite their differences, their relationship grows as Lucas and Lawrence open up to each other and they become much more involved emotionally.

My hands find hers and bring them above her head where our fingers weave together tightly. She opens her eyes and they watch mine as I move above her. It feels like our souls are meeting and . . . something is happening. I can’t give it a name. But I like it.

However, relationships are rarely perfect and the two eventually find themselves in a situation that may prove that love isn’t always enough.

The saddest discovery you can ever make is realizing you’ve fallen truly, madly, and deeply in love with a dream that will never be.

Tap is an enjoyable read! I loved Lucas and Lawrence together. They couldn’t be more different but their relationship still works. I loved that they didn’t skirt around their feelings. When Lucas started falling for Lawrence, he knew that he wanted to be with her and he jumped right in and told her so. I loved that he wanted complete honesty between the two of them from the beginning and he told her about impersonating her brother through their text messages. They talked it over like rational adults and there wasn’t any unnecessary angst thrown into the mix.

I loved Lucas’ relationship with his ex-wife and best friend, and I loved Ava. She was a sweet addition to the story. I also enjoyed getting a glimpse of Stout and Porter and am looking forward to their stories!

…there are far too many ordinary things in life. Love shouldn’t be one of them.
