Wow, this little book just rocked my world!

It’s one of those special books that holds you captive from the first moment, makes you fall in love, makes you feel everything, and leaves you desperate for more (or alternately, an immediate re-read).

18 year old Layken has just moved across the country with her mother and younger brother following the tragic death of her father. Understandably, she’s not in a good place emotionally, but she’s holding it together for her family and trying to help them get back on their feet.

Almost immediately, she meets 21 year old Will Cooper who lives across the street with his younger brother. They share an immediate attraction which quickly becomes deeper as they get to know each other and OMG I freaking LOVE every moment of them together! It feels so real. There’s nothing contrived about it, it’s natural and easy and so, so gorgeous. There is banter and flirting, and epic dialogue that I could have read for days! And every moment of it is simmering with chemistry. Will becomes Lake’s lifeline, and the two of them form a fast connection as the hope of something special with Will begins to drag her out of her desolation.

But then something happens to change all of that. As much as they want to be, they can’t be together, and it shatters them both. Not that that stops them from feeling the way they do, because even at this early stage they know that what they have is special, it just makes it all the more intense that they can’t act on it and though it’s heartbreaking to read, I loved every delicious, angsty minute of it!

“How do you not fall in love with him?”
The tears begin flowing just as quickly as they had ceased. I grab yet another tissue. “I don’t not fall in love with him. I don’t not fall in love with him a lot!”

But life twists and turns in ways you never expect. Will and Lake’s journey has only just begun.

I’m not going to go into any more detail because I don’t want to spoil this book for anybody, you just need to dive in and experience it. And that’s exactly what this story is – an experience. You don’t just read it, you feel it, and it’s one of those books that you know you’ll never forget.

“I got schooled this year
by
a
boy.

A boy that I’m seriously, deeply, madly, incredibly, and undeniably in love with.
And he taught me the most important thing of all…

To put the emphasis
On life

The book is told entirely from Lake’s POV, and I felt and could relate to everything that she went through. My heart broke for her, and my heart soared at her triumphs. She’s a wonderful character, and I absolutely loved her. And Will! Be still my heart, Will Cooper is my new book boyfriend. He’s not a bad boy or a manwhore, he’s just a gorgeous, gorgeous man with a huge heart, and I thought he was absolutely amazing.

“So you keep your ocean, I’ll take the Lake.”

More than just a romance, this a meaningful book with SO much amazing insight. There is family drama and wonderful character development, all blended together to create an incredible read that I look forward to rereading over and over again. It’s different. It’s heart-breaking. It’s beautiful. An absolutely gorgeous read, I loved it!

5 massive stars.
