“It’s strange how time and exposure to violence can dull its impact on you. It’s strange how one decision can change your life forever.”

4 stars!

This is the third book in the Dead Man’s Ink series, and it’s another wild story of blood, violence, vengeance and death, while also being a beautiful, passionate love story that is raw, sexy and intense. Like the previous two books in the series, this one had me hooked from start to finish as the brewing war between the Widowmaker’s MC and the Mexican cartels comes to a head.

This book is set six months after the ending of Rogue. Sophie and Rebel are together and happy, and they have created a life together that is unlike anything either of them ever anticipated.

‘Sophia’ was born from a terrified woman wanting to protect her family, and a fake ID. And now she is a flesh and blood badass, living the biker lifestyle – not just an old lady but as a true partner to MC President, Rebel. I have really enjoyed the evolution of Sophia in this series, and in this book she has fully embraced her new life and who she is in it, and I really liked seeing that side of her.

“I’m not the same frightened girl you bundled into the back of your car … I’m someone new. I’m someone entirely different altogether.”

And uber badass, Rebel never expected Sophia. For years, his life has been driven by his need for vengeance, and while he is still working towards taking out the Mexican cartels who took so much from him, he now has a woman in his life who means everything to him. It’s changed him, and his priorities, but he remains the incredibly focussed, intelligent ruthless leader that we know him to be. But we now get an added dimension to him as a man in love and the two sides of him are blended beautifully.

“If you weren’t in my life, sugar, I’d only be half a man. I wouldn’t trade knowing you, caring for you, loving you, for anything in the world.”

I love this relationship. It’s real, raw and passionate, and you can feel the connection that Rebel and Sophia share. They have their disagreements, as all couples do, but they are open with each other and there for each other, and their love for each other is all-consuming. And, of course, the sexy time is totally freaking hot – Rebel is a dirty talker who likes a bit of kinky play, and Sophia is powerless to resist him (who wouldn’t be?!).

I want to feel like I’m being owned. I want to feel like my body is not my own.

He bites my bottom lip into his mouth and bites down hard.
“I’m about to fuck you senseless, Sugar.”

Rebel would do anything for Sophia, and likewise, she totally has his back. So when her family get sucked into the MC’s war, it’s the final trigger, and Rebel and his crew plan to end the hostilities once and for all. It’s exciting and intriguing, and the anticipation builds wonderfully as we wait for the final showdown, and when it all goes down, it’s heart-stopping. Violent, bloody and intense, I was captivated waiting to see how it was all going to play out.

This book continues to fill in the pieces of the story that were hinted at during the Blood & Roses series, and I loved watching all of that come about. But there is still so much that I want to know, but don’t (and I’m still annoyed at Sophia’s inability to make one freaking phone call!!!). I don’t know whether Callie Hart is planning on writing more in this series, but the scope is definitely there. This book ends in a good place, and I was happy with how it finished, but I’d love to see the continuation of Sophia and Rebel’s story up until we meet them in the Blood & Roses series – and possibly even beyond.

And Cade!  Rebel’s best friend and VP, we get a few chapters from his POV, and I want his story so bad!!!  Looking forward to reading Vice.

I really enjoyed this one. It’s a wild ride full of all of the darkness, violence and passion that I have come to expect from this author, and I’m excited to read more from this world.

4 stars.
