4.5 stars!

Hearts of Blue, written by L.H.Cosway, is the fourth book in the Hearts series. Though it can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the whole series because every single book is fantastic.

After being introduced to Karla and Lee in the third book, King of Hearts, the idea of them as a couple intrigued me. This book was a great portrayal of one of my favorite themes – forbidden romance.

Karla is a 28 year old police constable who takes her job seriously. She stands firmly on the side of the law and she believes whole heartedly in what she does. Her father is the superintendent and is not supportive of her role as a police woman, so she works extra hard to earn her place on the force.

Lee is a 25 year old criminal who is undeniably charming. He had a hard childhood and basically had to raise his brothers by any means possible, even when it went against the law. Owning a garage with “questionable operations” puts him and his family on the police’s radar.

Lee meets Karla through Alexis, an ex of his brother, Stu’s. Alexis is Karla’s roommate and from the moment Lee sees Karla he wants her. He is flirty and persistent, never backing down.

“No one’s playing games. I like you a whole hell of a lot, Karla. I’ve told you that already, so stop trying to convince yourself otherwise.”
All the air left me when he moved forward, backing me into the door and cupping my face in his hands, his gaze reverent. “Give me a chance, and I’ll prove to you that everything you think you see is blurred by perception.”

Karla obviously sees Lee as off-limits and is not quick to jump into a relationship. Lee is determined to win her over even as she pushes him away. He starts showing up everywhere and begins to burrow himself into her heart. The sexual tension is almost tangible and it keeps building until it finally ignites into flames! When they finally come together, Lee was fully committed whereas Karla doesn’t see how a real relationship could ever work between the two of them.

The thin blue line would always lie between us, with me on the side of order and him on the side of chaos.

When one person is on one side of the law, and the other is on the opposite side, it’s only a matter of time before everything explodes and a major fallout is the only possible result creating a whole heap of hurt.

We were the same. Too stubborn and brave to know what was good for us, out on a mission to save everyone but ourselves.

I really enjoyed Hearts of Blue. I absolutely loved Lee. I loved his drive to support his family. I loved how committed he was to his feeling for Karla. He was an around great guy. I liked Karla but didn’t love her as much as I loved the other Hearts heroines. The amount of time she spent pushing Lee away started grating on my nerves. I wanted to yell at her and tell her to just open her heart and accept Lee for who he was.

I loved seeing Alexis and bit more of what she was going through that we didn’t see in King. The Cross brothers were also a great addition to the story. I enjoyed seeing their dynamic as a family and I couldn’t help but love them.

I enjoyed the epilogue too! I loved seeing a few years into the future and am now even more eager to get my hands on the next book and read Stu’s story!

The world isn’t blue, isn’t lonely any more, and though I was supposed to be the thief, she was the one who stole my heart.
