Note – This series was originally published as a collection of three serial novellas.  The book has now been combined into one volume, however the reviews below are still split into the three parts that make up thefull-length novel.

Reasonable Doubt: Vol 1

3.5 stars

This is a quick but entertaining read – the first in a series of three novellas featuring an absolute bastard of a hero that I was instantly intrigued by.

“One dinner. One night. No repeats.”

Andrew is a successful lawyer. Egositcial, unemotional and completely unapologetic about his asshole ways, he picks up women online, spends one night with them and then moves on to the next – all without getting involved in any way.

“How much longer do you think you’ll be able to keep doing this?”
“Keep doing what?”
“Chatting someone up for a week, fucking her, and moving on to the next. How much longer?”
“Until my dick stops working.”

There are hints of a painful event in his past that has forced him to close himself off but no details are revealed yet other than the fact that he cannot stand lies, and in the present day he seems satisfied with the way he lives his life. He has one only one personal relationship in his life – a woman he tried to pick up on line that didn’t work out like he expected, and over the course of 6 months, he and Alyssa have developed a ‘sort of’ friendship, communicating over text, email and phone conversations but they’ve never actually met. Their discussions mainly revolve around their work, but there is also some highly sexualised banter and flirting that is both hilarious and crudely hot.

“What do you look like?”
“I look like a man who wants to fuck you.”

“What if the real reason I don’t want to meet you is because I’m ugly?”
“I have a good feeling that you’re not”
“But if I was”
“I’d fuck you with the lights off.”
“I prefer the lights on”
“Then I’d make you wear a paper bag over your head.”

I am so fascinated by their dynamic! As cold and harsh as it may seem, there is a genuine appreciation and attraction between them that goes beyond the physical. But when they actually meet and Andrew discovers that Alyssa has been lying to him all along, his fury causes him to lash out, then it’s all on! And amidst all of the fury and cruelty, of course there is angry, passion-filled sex. HOTNESS!!!

The ending is unexpected, and with no clue what’s actually going on between these two, and exactly what secrets they are keeping, it’s a great set up for the next book. I’m diving straight in.

3.5 stars.

Reasonable Doubt:  Vol 2

4 stars

Let the hotness continue!!!

The continuation of Andrew and Aubrey’s story picks up with them still at each others’ throats, but now that Andrew has had a taste of Aubrey, he finds himself willing to break his “One dinner. One night. No repeats.” rule. Although he is still a cold, emotionless bastard, and is not prepared to take no for an answer when she continually spurns him.

“I can’t seem to stop thinking about my incompetent-ass-intern and how I only want to fuck her.”
Silence.
“Do you…” I shook my head. “Do you honestly think saying shit like that is a turn on?”
“Yes…” He trailed his fingers underneath my dress, slightly brushing his thumb against the crotch of my soaked panties. “And apparently you do too…”

And, truth be told, she doesn’t put up much of a fight.

“I hate you.”
“I’m pretty sure that you don’t.” He slipped his hand around my waist and pulled me close – making my breathing slow.
“Get your hands off me…”
“Say it more convincingly and I will.”

But how can she? Andrew is hotter than all hell, and some cracks finally start to appear in his closed-off, asshole nature. It’s slow, but he is reluctantly and begrudgingly accepting of the small advances that Aubrey makes into his life, handling it wish his usual cold sarcasm.

“Are you happy?”
“Yes…”
“Are you sure? Is there anything else outside of my comfort zone that you’d like me to do for you tonight?”

I enjoyed this novella more than the first, with the story starting to take shape now. We get to know Aubrey better, as well as seeing a little bit of the drama of Andrew’s past, and that final bombshell is a shocker!

I’m really looking forward to seeing how it’s all going to finish up, and hoping that we don’t have to wait too long for the next one!

4 stars.

Reasonable Doubt:  Vol 3

4.5 stars for the big, satisfying finish!

I, like a lot of readers, have been sitting on the cliffy of RD2 for a while now, and I am so happy that this final installment met all of my expectations, finishing off Andrew and Aubrey’s story beautifully.

Andrew Hamilton. Wow. After his devastating dick-move at the end of RD2, his assholishness is still in full effect as he continues to push Aubrey away, intending to return to his manwhoring ways. Honestly, the man is a dick. He is painfully cruel to Aubrey, and comes off like a callous bastard.

“I actually miss when I was Alyssa and you were Thoreau.”
“Back when you were a
fucking liar?”
“Back when you treated me better…”

But through every excruciatingly painful encounter, we still love him. And that is because behind it all, we can see that there is so much more to him, and throughout this book his full back story is finally revealed. Even though it has been hinted at in the earlier books, when it all comes out, my heart broke for him! I can understand his devastation, and how the events of his past have made him the way he is. So yeah, he’s a dick… just a confused one.

And bravo to Aubrey for standing strong and not being a doormat! She wants Andrew, but she’s not prepared to be treated like crap in order to have him. She is understandably shattered by his actions, but she really takes charge of her life in this book, and I was so proud of her! And even when he tries to come back into her life, she makes him work for it. You go girl!

“You would have to beg me to take you back, Andrew. Fucking beg me.”

And OMG, the man can grovel! The development of his character in this book is nothing short of spectacular as he is forced to live a life without Aubrey and starts to realise exactly what she means to him. And when he decides that he wants her – for real this time – nothing is going to stand in his way.

“I fucking love you, Aubrey… And I’ll do whatever it takes to show you that.”

I was stunned and thrilled at his turnaround – the arrogant, dirty talking asshole actually made me swoon with his actions and declarations. It was gorgeous!

“I don’t want you accusing me of treating you like all my other dates.”
“Does that mean you won’t fuck me at the end?”
“It means I won’t leave you at the end.”

And as always, the fireworks between these two are fantastic! Fighting or fucking, the passion is intense, and every little moment between them is electric!

“You’re going to show me to your room so you and I can become reacquainted.”
“Reacquainted? Is that code for conversation?”
“It’s code for fucking.”

I have really enjoyed this series, and I think this one is the best of the three. It’s a great conclusion with all of the drama, passion and steaminess that I have come to expect, and it completely wraps up Andrew and Aubrey’s story. There is a brief epilogue, and I would have loved to see a bit more, but I’m very happy with how it finished.

4.5 stars.
