OMG, the twists keep coming!  4 stars!

The Emperor Card has finally struck, and his deadly attack has changed everything. Lost, devastated and alone, Evie has to delve deep inside of herself to find her strength and find her way back to her friends. Along the way she gains new allies and discovers devastating betrayals, and she’ll meet new Arcana – players in the game that have yet to show their powers.

When she hits rock bottom yet again (below her previous levels of rock bottom), Death is the one who comes to her rescue. And with her emotions already in turmoil, her reunion with a ghost from her past uncovers more about her history and the possibilities of her future, and once again Evie’s world is thrown into chaos. And as she fights to overcome centuries of lies and deceit, her life once again changes direction. And through it all, she seeks for a way to find the Emperor and take her vengeance.

I have literally just finished this book and it feels like I’ve been on a rollercoaster ride. There are some huge game-changers in this one, and my head was spinning as it all unfolded. There is so much emotion in this book – from the lowest of the lows to breathtaking highs, and everything in between – it’s full of devastation, mistrust and betrayal, but another twist in the love story gives us a gorgeous romance that I honestly loved seeing.

Voice rough with lust, he said, “I have one treasure.” He slowed, pinning my gaze with his starry one. “And she owns my soul.”

And then there’s the action – the further development of Evie’s powers, the strengthening of her bonds with other Arcana and the badassery of their powers, and the ongoing battle to take out one of the most powerful Arcana in the game. It’s all happening!

And the whole time, there is this strong sense of anticipation of what is yet to come. Part of it, we know, because there are alternate POV chapters (which I loved!), other parts we don’t know – we just know that something is building, and that it’s going to be huge.

It’s all building towards a dramatic finale, but there’s so much that needs to happen before it’s all over! And with twists and turns and a HUGE game-changer thrown in there at the end, I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here.

This might be the most noble thing I’ve ever done. Noble, for the record, cuts like a blade to the heart.”

I loved this one! 4 stars.
