“Transit umbra, lux permanet”
…shadow passes, light remains…

This is the emotional conclusion to Logan and Amanda’s story that started in More Than Her. After that hideous cliffhanger in the last book that left most readers broken-hearted, but left me literally raging, I was curious to see how I was going to react to all that was going to come in this book.

Please note – this review will be spoilery if you haven’t read More Than Her. You have been warned!

I love Logan and Amanda! They are fantastic characters, and I loved watching their relationship develop in the last book. However, as much as I love their beautiful love story, I struggled with how quickly everything was resolved in this one. Based on my level of pissed-off-ness at Logan after his actions at the end of the last book I expected Amanda to be feeling the same. Apparently not! But more about that later.

The book dives straight into Amanda’s story as she comes to terms with Logan up and leaving her without a word, and my heart hurt for her watching her try to move on while never really being able to let go. She misses him, but she is angry and hurt, and despite everything, she still loves him.

Logan’s side of the story is heartbreaking. Yes, I was still pissed at him, but when we get his side of the story through diary entries, regardless of how I felt about what he had done, it’s heart-wrenching stuff. Even though the separation is entirely his own stupid fault, he is clearly still struggling with the monsters of his past, and the impact of that on Amanda. You can’t help but feel for the guy!

“You miss her?”
“Every second, of every hour, of every day.”

I loved that we get the dual POV for their reconnection. Seeing their incredible bond intact after a year apart, and how deeply in love with each other they still are, I could understand why they came back together so quickly. Although I personally needed to see more grovelling from Logan. I think he got away with what he did (view spoiler)too easily. There were declarations of love, and promises of never hurting her again, but it wasn’t enough for me. There needed to be more. I was glad that Amanda got the opportunity to yell at Logan a bit, and I was slightly mollified when Ethan eventually got his hands on him (was it wrong of me to cheer through this scene?), but I wanted more from Logan himself. It’s like he just slinked back into Amanda’s life and they picked up where they left off. But I guess, in the end, they both felt blame for all that went down, and felt that they had suffered enough, and they were so thrilled to be back together that they were willing to overlook the past and just be together. And there is something very special about that.

“We got a lot of shit to work through.”
“Yeah,” I agreed. “But once we do, we’re going to be amazing.” I felt his smile against my face.

“It’s going to be okay, Amanda.” He kissed my head. “I promise,” he said. “I’m going to make it okay.”

And I must say, that once they are back together, their relationship is beautiful! They still have issues to work through, and they do it at their own pace, but the love between them can never be doubted, and they are amazing together.

“You’re my light, Amanda. In a life full of shadows, and darkness, and monsters, you’re my light. When the blackness fades, and the memories subside, you’ll be there. You’re always there.”

Once again the extended cast of characters play a big part, and I loved seeing some story progression for so many of them. Things with Dylan and Heidi are particularly interesting, I’m really looking forward to their book! But it’s Cam and Lucy up next, and I am so excited for more of them! They are sensational!

“This time—you better be ready to fight for her. She doesn’t deserve anything less.”

I really enjoyed this book. Once again Jay McLean has given us a hilariously funny but deeply emotional read with a beautiful, passionate romance. She blends it all so perfectly, I love the way she tells her stories! I’m especially glad that there wasn’t a lot of additional drama thrown into the story as Logan and Amanda had enough to deal with as it was, and I was thrilled that they got their happy ever after.

4 stars (some more grovelling from Logan would have bumped this up).
