This is a great little novella, part of the Wait For You series, and tells the story of Colton and Abby.

Abby is a quiet and relatively shy romance book editor. She is sweet and funny and she has some self-esteem issues, but not in an overwhelming way – more in a way that makes her relatable to pretty much everybody, and I really liked her. She tragically lost her husband four years ago, leaving her a widow and since then she has become relatively disconnected from the world.

I spent every day caught up in the fictional worlds of the authors I edited, experienced their love, their heartbreak and everything in between, that I hadn’t, in the last four years, experienced anything in the real world or taken any time for myself.

Colton is the older brother of Reece from Fall With Me, and I loved him in that book so I was really excited to get his story. Like his brother, he is a detective, and when Abby witnesses a brutal murder, he is the one assigned to her case when she comes in to give a witness statement.

Colton and Abby immediately recognise each other from high school. Though she had a boyfriend all through school (that she later went on to marry), she noticed him back then, and she liked what she saw. Now he’s all grown up, a total alpha and hotter than ever, and he’s putting himself in her life in a way that she never could have imagined. And all these years later, it seems like they are getting the chance to explore their secret crush from long ago.

“You and I are going to get to know each other in a way that’s long overdue.”

I loved the progression of this relationship. Colton is up front about his rekindled attraction to Abby, and though she has her doubts and insecurities, I love that she accepts his presence and his determination to get to know her, and their feelings for each other develop beautifully. Their chemistry sizzles as they get to know each other, and the sexy time is hot, and Colton does a wonderful job of putting Abby at ease and ensuring that she knows exactly what he wants from her.

Closing my eyes, I exhaled softly. “You want to see me, but I’m not sure you really want to. I don’t look like—”
“I know what you look like,” he said, his voice low as his gaze met and held mine. “I have two eyes and I’ve been checking you out often. Enough that it would probably make you uncomfortable if you knew. I fucking adore what I see.” He drew my hand to his groin, folding my palm over the rigid length. “I want what I see.”

The relationship is made all the more intense by the murder that Abby witnessed, and the fact that the bad guy is still out there. It adds a mystery/suspense feel to the book with the threat of danger constantly hanging over Abby’s head, and it provides a great opportunity for Colton to be all alpha protective over his girl, which I fully appreciated.

But it’s all about the love story, and I really enjoyed this one. There are a few sigh-inducing moments in the book, but for the most part this book is very little angst and a whole lot of romance and swoon as Colton and Abby figure each other out and find their happy ending

“I’ve dreamed of you for so long.”
Colton picked up my hand and brought it to his mouth, kissing my palm. “You don’t have to dream anymore.”

A really sweet addition to the series.

3.5 stars.
