Hudson Wheeler is a nice guy. Everyone knows it, including his fiancée who left him with a canceled wedding and a baby on the way. He’s tired of finishing last and is ready to start living in the moment with nights soaked in whiskey, fast cars, and even faster girls. He’s set to start living on the edge, but when he meets Poppy Cruz, her sad eyes in the most gorgeous face he’s ever seen hook him in right away. Wheeler can see Poppy’s pain and all he wants to do is take care of her and make her smile, whatever it takes.

Poppy can’t remember a time when she didn’t see strangers as the enemy. After a lifetime of being hurt from the men who swore to protect her, Poppy’s determined to keep herself safe by keeping everyone else at arm’s length. Wheeler’s sexy grin and rough hands from hours restoring classic cars shouldn’t captivate her, but every time she’s with him, she can’t help being pulled closer to him. Though she’s terrified to trust again, Poppy soon realizes it might hurt even more to shut Wheeler out—and the intense feelings pulsing through her are making it near impossible to resist him.

The only thing Poppy is sure of is that her heart is in need of some serious repair, and the more time she spends with Wheeler, the more she’s convinced he’s the only man with the tools to fix it.

Review

4.5 “I saw you” stars!

Salvaged by Jay Crownover is the fourth book in the Saints of Denver series. It’s a beautiful story about two broken souls who find love and healing when they least expect it. This sweet, swoony and sexy book is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. It’s full of emotion and I loved it!

Poppy Cruz has a horrific and painful past that has left her fragile and broken. Her heart is locked up tight and she only feels comfortable with a few people. She lives in constant fear and she can’t seem to move on.

Hudson Wheeler is dealing with his own troubles as his happiness slips through his hands. When he meets Poppy, he notices the pain behind her eyes and the loneliness that surrounds her. He can’t help but feel a pull towards her and though he can’t act on it right away, he knows there is something special about Poppy.

This is a wonderfully written story about strength, love, and healing. The plot is fast-paced and entertaining with amazing characters you can’t help but love. Poppy is a wonderfully complex heroine. She is terrified and broken down, and watching her deal with her painful past is heartbreaking. She is so strong and brave – a true survivor. You couldn’t help but root for her HEA once you learn about her past. I felt her fear, pain, and guilt, but I loved watching her overcome her demons.

I loved Wheeler and my heart hurt for him. Watching him navigate his life without his childhood sweetheart and the broken heart he experienced was gut wrenching. He is such a sweet, caring man who only wants the best for the people he loves and he was lost when his life was turned upside down. His character was well developed and his fears and insecurities made him realistic and vulnerable. He had such a big heart and he was such a wonderful man that I quickly fell for him.

“Doesn’t matter what the path we’re on looks like as long as we’re walking it together. If I stumble you can be there to help me up, and you know I’ll do my best to never let you fall.”

Poppy and Wheeler were phenomenal together. Both broken and hurting in their own way, they were able to find peace and healing within each other’s arms. They provided comfort for one another and I loved watching the trust build and the beautiful friendship that develops as the attraction grows stronger. Both are patient, loving and supportive, each helping to ease the other’s burdens.

He wasn’t simply fighting my demons for me, he was giving me the strength to do battle with them on my own.

They were perfect for each other and I couldn’t keep the smile off my face when they went all in.

The dust had cleared and Poppy and I were left standing facing each other, the dreams we used to have lying in tatters at our feet. It was time to pick the pieces up and stitch together new dreams, ones that had pieces of her and pieces of me woven in the fabric so deeply that nothing could rip them apart.

Overall, I really enjoyed this emotional love story. I loved that the characters from the other Saints of Denver books and Marked Men series made appearances and this story tied into so many others. The epilogues were gorgeous and gave us so much more of everyone and I couldn’t have been happier.

This was more than feeling good and chasing away bad memories…
This was my soul telling her soul that it had been waiting for a long time to find its other half. This was me dreaming a new dream and her making it come true just like she promised she would.
This was healing.
This was starting over.
This was reinvention.
