Review

“Go ahead. Judge me. You have no idea what my love entails.
I love two men. I fuck two men.
If you think you’ve heard this story before, you haven’t.”

HOLY MIND-FUCKING HELL!

I have just been on a mad rollercoaster, my head is in a spin, and I fucking love it!

This book is brilliantly written with incredibly raw emotion and it packs a powerful punch. There are twists and turns, and the whole thing is so cleverly done, I was gobsmacked! Still am, actually, which is why I’m going to say pretty much nothing about the story and will encourage you to just dive in and experience it!

True love makes a person reckless, makes them take risks and make sacrifices. True love tests the boundaries of our person, makes us yearn to be better and fight for the ground we stand on. I will fight for this love. Lie for it. Steal for it. It is worthy of that.

At the centre of it all is Layana. Initially she comes across as a spoiled, rich princess, but there is so much to her. You will love her and you will hate her – I certainly did – but there is no denying that she is an incredible heroine, and a brilliant narrator to all that is going down.

“I love you. Every dark and light piece of you.”

Yes, there are lies. There is betrayal. There is heartbreak. But OMG, there is also beautiful, passionate, all-consuming love, and it is delicious in its intensity.

She stares in my eyes and loves me with a vehemence all her own. A scary, passionate type of love. One that rips away all pretenses and allows us to love each other bare and without consequence.

I love her completely.  She returns the love wildly. This love is worth the unsaid truths. The hidden lies.

This book is nothing like what I was expecting. I saw all of the rave reviews, but didn’t really know much about the story, so I went in blind, the only thing I knew was that there was a big twist. While reading I was analysing everything trying to figure out how it was going to work out, how I was going to be ok with it all because I was seriously pissed off for a large portion of this book. Now, I am so glad I knew nothing going in, because that reveal was nothing short of spectacular for me. Maybe I was a bit slow, but I’ve got to admit that I never saw it coming. And OMG, I loved it!

As a reader, it’s a rare treat to experience that one moment, that ‘holy shit’ moment that takes you by surprise and changes your ENTIRE perception of a book. This one snuck up on me, and it’s so clever, I actually screamed out loud. I needed to take a break from reading to take it all in and talk to a friend about it before being able to settle myself down again and finish the book – which, from that point on, is even more absolutely breathtaking! My heart is STILL pounding and I can’t wipe the smile off my face.

When you really love someone, you cannot walk away. No matter what they do. No matter the lies from their mouth, or the actions from their bodies, you tie yourself tightly to their sail and vow to be there through thick and thin. Let the wind blow you where it may. Even if that place is a crash. Even if that place tears you apart and kills anything good.

Alessandra Torre has taken us on yet another rollercoaster ride, and I felt every single moment of it! The love, the hate, the romance, sex, anger, torment and heartbreak all blends to give us a sensational story and all I want to do is go back to the beginning and read the whole thing again!

5 mindblowing stars.
