4.5 stars!

Redemptive is the second book in the Combative Trilogy and Jay McLean has managed to leave me reeling from this portion of the story. This series just gets better and better. I could hardly fall asleep last night because the story was playing over and over in my mind. Redemptive is full of mystery, suspense, friendship and a romance that is beautiful and utterly heartbreaking.

I do not want to go into the plot too much because I do not want to give away any of the story. Just know that Jay McLean does a fantastic job setting up her characters and making us feel what they are going through. She creates such a strong connection between her two main characters, Nate and Bailey, that we understand their relationship completely.

I loved Nate. He didn’t have an easy childhood and he was thrown into the family business at an early age. He is a badass but also a very caring individual. We get to see his softer side with Bailey and it made me fall in love with him.

“…you allow me to be me, you love me for me. I know you think I saved your life, but the truth is, you saved mine.”

“You’re the only freedom I’ve ever known, Bailey.”

And I loved Bailey. She is a sweet broken girl who has been dealt a shitty hand at life. She is a strong individual trying to navigate through the circumstances she is thrown into.

For the first time in my life, I had something to lose. I had him. And as wrong as it was, he meant absolutely everything to me.

The romance is slow to build and has the feelings of first love. The butterflies and the nervousness are present as well as the innocence. I adored Bailey and Nate together. They are two tortured souls trying to figure out their feelings and how they fit together. The unlikely friendship between them that turned into an all consuming romance had me giddy with happiness.

I also loved the friendship between Nate and Tiny. You get so much more insight into the two of them and what they have gone through. Tiny is loyal through and through and Nate is so fortunate to have a best friend like him. He supports Nate 100% and always has is back.

“I protect you because you’re my boss, Nate. I kill for you because you’re my family.”

As I said before, this book has left me reeling. I am not sure with whom my loyalties should lie. I am so torn with my emotions at this point. I have no idea where the story is going and what the answers will bring. I need to know what happens. I need the next book. I need it now!

4.5 stars!!
