3.5 stars!

The second book of the Blackstone Affair series gives us more Brynne, a WHOLE lot more Ethan (squee), and more of everything that we got in the first book. Naked ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I was keen to get into this one, and the story picked up straight away – except this time from Ethan’s POV.

“I have no intentions of letting you go.” I swallowed hard. “If you come with me you’re signing on for all of me, Brynne. I don’t know any other way to be with you. It’s all in for me. And I want it to be all in for you too.”

Ethan was initially hired by Brynne’s father for her security, and while the first book concentrated mainly on setting up the characters and their intense chemistry, this book not only progresses their relationship, but also brought the security issues into the story, which I really liked.

But the focus is very much on the romance and there is a lot of both character and relationship development happening, with Brynne’s horrific past being fully revealed, and Ethan’s problems starting to be explored. And I love how they deal with it. There is just as much sex as the first book, and it’s really freaking hot, but there is a stronger emotional connection between them now, and that really comes out in the love scenes.

We fit beautifully together like this. Sex with her shattered me down to my deepest levels of complexity, even if Brynne wasn’t aware, I was.

The intensity of their connection – both in and out of the bedroom – is really well written. Brynne’s feelings were clear from the first book, but with this book being from Ethan’s POV we get to see how deeply, passionately and completely in love with Brynne he is. Getting an insight into his thoughts is really very poetic with the way he ruminated on how he feels about her, how she had changed him and just her as a person. It’s beautifully written.

I knew I had found my angel at last and I would hold onto her with everything I had.

The next book is set up beautifully, with the end of this book giving us a peek into the threat looming over them. I’m looking forward to getting to it.
