Review

Another mega-swoony Colorado Mountain story from the fabulous Ms Ashley! This one starts off with a bit of a twist, with Ty and Lexie getting married in Vegas when they are virtual strangers (Ty as part of his “ plan o’vengeance ” for 5 years of wrongful imprisonment, and Lexie to get away from the bad in her life and start fresh, with Ty’s protection (and some financial incentive)).

There is insane chemistry between them, and it’s only a matter of time before they fall madly in love. But there’s also bad guys to avoid, badder guys to track down, and Ty’s name to clear. And it’s a crazy rollercoaster ride!

Usually my reviews of KA books are a total gush-fest for the Alpha hero (and I’ll get to that), but first I want to gush about Lexie. I absolutely adored her!! She’s so open and honest, and gives of herself completely, with no bullshit. She threw herself into their marriage with total enthusiasm, even though she knew it wasn’t real, and goes about setting up a home for Ty, and trying to make up for the 5 years that he lost. She’s strong and stands up for herself, and her man, but she’s not afraid to let Ty have it when he deserves it. She’s also freaking hilarious, and throws some sensational sass. And I love that she’s a goof, I love that Ty loves that she’s a goof, and I love that he calls her on it.

And Ty… ahhhh Ty. He’s gorgeous! He is very closed off to begin with, and completely focussed on his revenge, but he slowly starts to melt as Lexie works her magic on him. A lot of the book is told in Ty’s POV, and it is absolutely sensational to be able to get inside of his head so you really get to see him fall hard for Lexie. It takes him a bit longer to admit to his feelings, and he was a real jerk about it there for a while, but when he finally does – SWOON!

What you need to give me is to know it is not about you, it’s about me, you gotta suck it up and stand by me, you gotta know, in the end, I’ll work my ass off to make it all worth it to you and you gotta always remember I love you and I have never, not once, said those words to any breathing soul so you also gotta know what that means.

Their relationship was very swoony with lots of teasing and laughs, and a whole heap of hotness. And watching the two of them settle into a new and happy life together was gorgeous!

There were a few ‘heart in throat’ moments in the story – one that had me in tears (“Your nightmare, mama, was my dream.“…. *sob sob*) – and some ‘OMG’ moments that had me swearing loudly and screaming “what is happening?” at my kindle. But to balance this, Lexie’s goofiness provided for some very funny moments in this book, and the road trip scene had me crying in laughter! I had to include this scene when they stop for gas…

“Do you want anything?”
“No, and you don’t either”
Her head tipped to the side just as her hip hitched the opposite direction.
“I don’t?”
He knew that tone too. It was the danger zone.
“Lex, I’d like to get to Carnal before Christmas.”
When he started speaking, her head jerked for some reason and she waited a second before she responded.
“We’ll be there before Christmas.”
“Not if you drink another two litres of coffee.”
“It wasn’t two litres, Ty!” she snapped loudly.
“Just pay for the gas,” he ordered.
“We need snacks,” she informed him.
“We don’t need snacks.”
“Okay, let me rephrase, I need snacks. We’re on a road trip. It’s a moral imperative to have snacks, the worse for you, the better,” she explained.
“Christ,” he muttered.
“Do you want anything?” she asked.
Had his wife been in another dimension the last thirty seconds?
“You seriously askin’ that shit?” he asked back.
She stared at him through her shades. Then she decided out loud, “I’ll stock up, just in case.”
Then, before he could say a word, she strutted away.

Helping Ty clear his name is his very good friend Tate Jackson (squee), along with other characters from earlier books in the series, and a whole bunch of new family and friends… including one very hot cop – Chase Keaton (loved the intro to both him and Faye – so excited for their story next!).

The climax had some surprising elements, but other parts that were very expected,

KA seems to have a bit of a thing for kidnappings
but because those parts came from Ty’s POV, it was incredibly intense, because you were feeling his reactions and emotions right along with him, and my heart was absolutely pounding through the whole thing. And yes, there is an Epilogue, and it gives you a brilliant HEA.

Absolutely loved it – 5 shining stars!
