“No matter what, I will always find my way back to you.”

A breathtakingly beautiful story of a husband and wife torn apart by the devastation of PTSD, and their fight to find their way back to each other.

5 stars.

Lucy and Fisher were high school sweethearts, meeting when she was 16, and he was 18. Best friends, lovers and soul mates, they created an amazing life together, interrupted by Fisher’s frequent deployments overseas as a Marine. So even though they have been together for 14 years, they have actually only spent around six of those together, but their deep love for each other, and Lucy’s unwavering support has helped Fisher to cope with their separations, and all that he endures while fighting.

“You make everything perfect, Lucy. You’re my light and my life and all I need is your love to guide me home, no matter where I go.”

She’s so proud of him, and wants nothing more than to stand by him, but she aches with worry for him, and her heart slowly breaks as the love of her life drifts further and further away from her.

I never expected more and more of him to be chipped away each time he left me, but after he came home the last time, there was nothing left of the man I’d loved since I was sixteen years old … In his place was an angry, depressed man who couldn’t break free of his nightmares.

Each time Fisher comes back to her he is a little more lost, until in one devastating night, it all falls apart, and the full extent of Fisher’s brokenness if revealed. And OMG, it hurts!!! Tara Sivec has pulled out all of the feels for this book! Watching this couple fall apart, even though we’ve pretty much just met them, is painful to read, and Lucy’s shattering torment drags you straight into the devastation that is the beginning of this book.

I was still here, Fisher. I was still here, holding my breath, waiting for you to come back even though you told me you never would. You always said you’d find your way back to me. Out of all the lies you’ve told me, this one hurts the most.

It’s a year before Fisher and Lucy see each other again. Right when Lucy decides it’s time to try and move on, Fisher returns to the island to claim his wife back. And all of that pent-up emotion makes for an explosive, highly-emotional and chemistry-filled reunion. And again with the feels! This book broke my heart watching the struggle both Lucy and Fisher go through, and it’s not an easy road for them to come back together. There is a lot of hurt and confusion between them, and a lot that they have to work through, and it seems like one step forward, two steps back for a while. But the love between them still burns very brightly, and once they start to open up to each other, they realize just how much they’re willing to fight to reclaim all that they have lost.

I’m going to remind her why we’re perfect for each other. I’m going to show her that there’s no one else on this earth that can love her like I can.

I felt like the luckiest girl in the world the first time I fell in love with him, and it feels like a dream that I’ve been able to do it a second time. How many people get a second chance at love with the only person they’ve ever held in their heart?

The story is told from dual POV, with multiple flashbacks to the past – both the good times and the bad – which show us the beginnings of their relationship, as well as Fisher’s slow downfall, and I love that we got to see what he was going through. It was shocking to see him so shattered, and his struggles were heartbreaking, but it added so much to the story that we got to see the depths of his trauma and how hard he fought to do the right thing by the girl who refers to as “My Lucy”.

The tears pool in my eyes and fall down my face. I love her so much and all I’m doing is hurting her. The one person in my life who never lets me down and all I keep doing is breaking her apart. I let her down every time I leave, I let her down every time she has to handle something alone, I let her down when I come home and I’m not myself because I’m still stuck in a place halfway across the world.

She is my heart, my soul, my everything.

I hate every moment that I’m away from her, but I will do whatever it takes to find the man she once loved and bring him back to her.

It’s painful, but it’s worth every moment of heartache for the passionately swoontastic reconciliation that had me fanning myself and crying tears of happiness.

“You are always the light in my darkness. You’re the reason I’m alive, you’re the reason I’m here and you’re the reason I breathe, every day” … “I kept my promise. I found my way back to you and I will ALWAYS find my way back to you, no matter where I go, forever,” he vows.

Tara Sivec has shown us a completely different side to her writing with this book, and she’s done an amazing job with it! Beautifully emotive with intense feels and a stunning romance, she has created a very special story about second chances and never letting go, and Lucy and Fisher’s story is one that will stay with me for a long time.

5 stars.
