Review

A beautifully sweet love story featuring a hot, celebrity hockey player and a single mother of twin girls, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.

When bad weather traps Brody Murphy at the small yet charming Cranberry Inn, he gets the last thing he expected when he meets Kacie. As the daughter of the owner, Kacie lives at the Inn with her adorable twin daughters, and at first glance, they are both immediately attracted. But rest assured, there is no insta-love here! They talk, they get to know each other, and when Brody eventually leaves to go back home, he has no intention of it being goodbye.

But despite Kacie’s attraction to Brody, she is reluctant to get involved. She has been hurt badly in the past and she guards her heart. But she can’t resist the sweetness, teasing and determination of Brody for too long. And seriously, who could? The man is absolute perfection! He doesn’t pressure her, he’s patient and understanding, and takes the time to make sure she feels safe while gently encouraging her to explore the possibility of more.

“You’re not a conquest and I don’t play games. I told you I haven’t really ever done the girlfriend thing and you haven’t done the boyfriend thing in a long time. Let’s figure it out together.”

The story is told in dual POV, and I absolutely love the way the author has written both Brodie and Kacie. Both of them fall hard and fast, but their inner monologue as they sort out their feelings, and vent their frustration is absolutely brilliant!

She nudged my shoulder without letting go of my hand. Any physical contact with her was a bonus. She could give me a noogie and I’d consider it a win.

OMG, I loved this relationship! It’s so real! They like each other, they spend time together and get to know each other, and they fall in love. It’s easy, it’s functional, and it’s fairly angst free. Even with Kacie’s issues, Brody is too irresistible!

“Life is a sum made up of small parts, Kacie. Some are good; some are bad. You and the girls are definitely one of the good. The best good there is and I’ll fight like hell to keep you here.”

And seeing him with Kacie’s 5 year old daughters is gorgeous. His love for his ‘twinkies’ is adorable, and each little moment he spends with them just melted me.

There’s a great cast of characters, with both Kacie and Brodie’s best friends heavily involved and hilarious. Kacie’s Mum and dear old Fred are also really sweet and gorgeously protective of their girl. There is a bit of drama thrown into the mix, but it’s handled really well, and the ending had my heart pounding at the intensity of it all, with a great lead in to the next book.

This is a really beautiful, easy read. The pacing is perfect and the romance is a total swoonfest.

I loved it – 4 stars.
