Synopsis

ALY

It’s been twelve years since I’ve seen him, but loathing Emmett Hoult still runs in my blood. Thanks to the hell he wreaked on my teenaged life, I’ve avoided the prick like the plague. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and after a fire destroys my apartment during the most important week of my life, I’m suddenly as desperate as they come.

Hence the roommate situation.

It’s his summer home. His family said he wouldn’t be around. They said I’d never run into him.

But oh, did I run into Emmett Hoult.

And in the worst way possible.

EMMETT

I didn’t expect to see her ever again, let alone the way I did.

But now that she’s back in my life, I’m not screwing things up. She still hates me – I know that – but it won’t stop me from chasing the only two goals I’ve made for this summer:

Making things right.

And making her mine.

Review

4.5 stars

This is such a great read! A gorgeous friends-to-lovers, almost-second-chance romance that is funny, sweet and super sexy. A wonderful addition to the Irresistible series, it can easily standalone, and I loved it!

Aly Stanton finds herself homeless after a fire rips through her apartment. She is offered a house in the Hamptons that belongs to a family friend and is promised that the owner is out of town, which is just as well, as the owner is Emmett Hoult, the boy she blames for ruining her life and the man she’s avoided for the last 12 years.

Fans of this series will remember Emmett as the fun-loving, not-so-serious younger brother of Julian from Bad Boss.  A rich playboy, he can (and does) have any woman he wants, but he never gets involved, avoiding emotional connection. He told his mother he would be away from his summer home in order to avoid her inevitable match-making, and she arranged for Aly to move in without his knowledge, so the last thing either them expected was to be living together in the same house – even if just for the summer.

“Oh, come on, Aly,” she frowned, patting my knee. “It’s going to be fine. I’m sure that you two can coexist platonically under one roof. And if for some reason, you fall out of the shower one day and land on his cock, that wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, right?”

Emmett and Aly were childhood best friends, but thing went wrong for them in junior year and it changed the course of Aly’s life. And while she put a lot of effort into hating him over the years, Emmett never forgot about her. And after a hot, anonymous night club hook up that has them both panting for the other, he’s determined not to let her go again.

I needed time to wrangle my thoughts and figure out what the fuck to do next. I could barely think straight, but there were at least a few things I knew for sure.
Aly was back in my life and I was already hooked on her again.
I needed to be near her. I wanted to find out everything she did, everything she’d seen – everything I’d missed about her since the day she was gone. After last night, I could barely go two seconds without thinking about her.
And since losing her the first time was hard enough, there was no way in hell I was letting it happen again.

I freaking loved the set up for this book. There’s lots of shared history, buried memories and animosity between Emmett and Aly, but there’s also a whole lot of sexual tension, and seeing them together was all kinds of fun.

“About last night…”
For some reason, I held out for the miracle of her saying she didn’t regret it.
“It was a big mistake.”
Yeah. Fuck.

Emmett is so adorably playful, you can’t help but love him. He holds nothing back from Aly, and I loved seeing the changes in him as he figured out that Aly was the one for him and fought hard for his girl, and it doesn’t take long for things between them to change.

“Loving you is the oldest memory I have,” he said as I stared through my tears at him. “You were a part of my life for as long as I can remember. All my best memories were with you … I missed you so fucking much, Aly. I had no idea what you meant to me until you were gone.”

Oh swoon!

I loved watching it all happen for them as they deal with the past and start to explore everything that is between them.

“I’ve been waiting twelve years for you, and I don’t want anyone else. I want to be with you, and only you.”

And the hotness! Oh holy hell, the hotness! Stella Rhys writes steamy, passionate romance, and the sexy time between these two is off the charts! It’s a wonderful reflection of the growing intimacy between them, and the development of the love story is just gorgeous.

In these arms, I was convinced that this was exactly what love felt like.

But there are still secrets between them. They’ll have to trust their hearts, and each other, to move on from the past once and for all and find their HEA.

This is such a great read. It’s fun and sexy and sweet with lots of heart, and I loved Emmett and Aly together. Julian and Sara from Bad Boss are a part of the story, and I love the introduction of Emmett’s and Aly’s best friends – so freaking hilarious, and I hope they get a book at some point!

I really loved this one – 4.5 stars.

About the Author

Stella Rhys is an author of contemporary romance and can’t help but write it hot, steamy and borderline filthy (just kidding, it’s just flat-out filthy). Writing aside, she lives for coffee, the Knicks, the Yankees and cooking recipes way out of her league. She was born and raised in New York and now lives there with her husband and charmingly entitled fur babies.
