3.5 hot, dark and ruthless alpha stars!

Holy damn, Meghan March may have given us her darkest, dirtiest, baddest antihero yet with Lachlan Mount! The man rules New Orleans and its underground, and there’s pretty much nothing he won’t do (or hasn’t done) to get what he wants. So when he sets his sights on newly-widowed Keira Kilgore, her life is about to change in ways she can’t even imagine.

Keira Kilgore was an easy mark. Full of righteous indignation and a fire I’ll be enjoying having beneath me.

Keira is a strong, stubborn, feisty and driven woman who isn’t exactly grieving her husband’s death. She was on the verge of divorcing him after a very short but unhappy marriage, but she’s still left with a lot of conflicted feelings about him. Especially when she learns that he ran up a massive debt with the king of the underworld, and now Mount is coming to claim his payment…. her.

It’s a twisted set up, and it’s just as deliciously wicked as you would expect it to be. Mount is controlling and demanding, but he’s all about giving in the bedroom. And though Keira is terrified of the powerful man, a darker part of her wants everything that he’s offering, and she has no idea how to deal with that.

“You know what else power is, Keira? An aphrodisiac. You can fear me and still want me at the same time. It will heighten every experience.”
“All you have to do is ask for it.” It’s like the devil offering up your deepest desire for the low, low price of your soul.

It’s dark and dirty, and nothing is off limits with these two and the hotness is insane! Mount has a dirty mouth and the moves to more than back it up, and the chemistry between them is sizzling – made all the more intense by the mindfuckery of their situation.

“I’m going to fuck you like you’ve been begging a man to fuck you your entire life. And I guarantee while I’m buried inside you, there won’t be a single second when you feel like it’s against your will”

And as Keira succumbs to all that Mount can make her feel, I loved that she owned it but still had the courage to stand up for herself when it counted. Her feistiness is really entertaining, and a wonderful contrast to Mount’s callousness and control. And Mount finds himself more and more drawn to the one person in the world who has the courage to take him on and not immediately bow down to his every wish.

There’s a fire burning in her that I’ve never found in another woman

It’s a great dynamic, and sets up the rest of their story really nicely as revelations at the end of the book add even more depth and intrigue to everything that is unfolding between them, and I can’t wait to see where it’s all going to go from here.

I really enjoyed this one – 3.5 stars.
