OMG, James Cavendish, you continue to rock my world!

Continuing on one month after the events of the first book, In Flight, this book picks up the drama straight away, with James and Bianca still struggling with their tumultuous, fledgling relationship. They still want each other, badly, but Bianca still has issues with the relationship side. And OMG, those issues get played out in frustrating detail!!!! The woman did my head in for half of this book! How can she still be so freaking oblivious???

OK, this isn’t really a spoiler, but there is some major ranting ahead so up to you whether you choose to witness my meltdown…

Spoiler

She doubts James’ intentions even though everything he does and says demonstrates how special she is to him and that he wants a future with her. And she still thinks she’s a casual fling! And then she has the audacity to wonder why HE is insecure about their relationship! BECAUSE YOU REFUSE TO TALK ABOUT IT, YOU STUPID WOMAN!!! THE POOR GUY HAS NO IDEA WHERE HE STANDS!

Ugh! I was so mad at her, and then my heart broke even more for James when he says this line…

“I love any touch from you. It feels caring, and I want that. I want so much for you to care for me”

And. Still. She. Says. Nothing!!!!!!!! Poor James!!! *sob*.

But James loves her deeply, and storms on regardless, never doubting that he will bring her around. Lavishing her with love, affection and gifts… as well as other things that she needs *wink*. And I must say that through all of my irritation, I never actually really disliked Bianca. I was frustrated with her, sure, but she was honest with herself, and managed to give enough to James to let him know that she was affected by him. And thankfully, she does manage to have an epiphany, and even though she still has issues, she at least grows enough to be more confident and secure with James. Phew!

Anyway, complaints about stupid heroine behaviour aside, I did really love this book. James is just amazing. Still controlling and dominant, he mainly keeps it restricted to the bedroom, although he is bossy and involves himself in Bianca’s life in any way that he can. But, this is fiction, it’s expected from him, and we love it! And he seems to know what she needs. While some of their behaviour together may seem a bit weird and OTT (with the undressing, and bathing, and then there’s the other side with the punishment side of things), it works for them. He needs to care for her like that, and she seems to need it (she certainly enjoys it), so who am I to judge? He is, in all ways, generous and loving with Bianca and I love that he introduced some teasing into their relationship. And of course, he is absolutely protective of his girl.

“Meet my future. Her name is Bianca. Come to terms with it. My advice would be to get on her good side.”

Like the first book, there are lots of steamy moments, and even more swoon as James and Bianca start to open up more and more to each other, and James starts to make plans for their future. And, importantly, there is a new level of honesty to their relationship (particularly with James being willing to share details of his sordid past), and I really loved that!

“I can’t change my past, Bianca. All I can do is be honest with you, and I’ve done my best.”

“I want to deserve you, my love.”

The dramas continue with Bianca’s family and James’ exes, and with particular storylines left undone and twists uncovered, I’m looking forward to seeing further developments in the next book (including a very well deserved smackdown that I am practically drooling to see!). But mostly, I’m looking forward to seeing Bianca completely let go, and seeing her and James finally getting the HEA that was hinted at in the final pages.

“I don’t know how it happened so fast, but you feel like home to me, James.”
A hoarse, pained sound escaped his throat. “Yes,” he said, his voice rough with emotion. “This is home.”

4.5 swoony, steamy stars 🙂
