“You ever look at someone and know that if you let them, they could turn your life upside down… completely ruin you?”

5 stars!

Freaking damn! This book was so good! Smart and sexy with fantastic banter and teasing, epic chemistry, and one hell of a love story. The magic of Keeland and Ward continues, and they’ve done a phenomenal job with this one!

I listened to this as an audiobook which was sensationally narrated by Sebastian York and Maxine Mitchell, but as much as I loved it, I wish I had read it because I would have been highlighting like a lunatic – but I guess it at least keeps my review shorter without adding in the flirty banterific gold that was this book!

Gia has moved to the Hamptons for the summer with the intention of writing her first romance novel. She’s living in a share house with a friend, and it’s while pitching in to cover for that friend that she stumbles into a job at the local bar and hotspot.

Rush is the owner of that bar. He’s a wealthy and mostly anti-social with a chip on his shoulder and is known as a bit of a hardass to his employees, but there’s something about Gia that brings out his softer side and he wants to help her out. There’s no denying that they’re drawn to each other, but his strict rules of not getting involved with employees gives him distance from exploring his terrifying feelings towards his newest employee, and instead the two of them become fast friends, with Gia’s honesty and quick wit throwing his shit back just as quickly as he can deal it, and it’s all so much fun!

“I sort of like your company.”
“Sort of?”
“When you’re not pissing me off the other half of the time, yeah.”

Gia and Rush are magic together! They tease and banter, they joke and have fun, and most of all they are honest with each other. Their chemistry is absolutely sizzling, and though they both admit to their attraction to each other, Rush isn’t willing to go there, keeping them firmly in the friend-zone…. until they’re not.

“Just because I can’t be with you, doesn’t mean I don’t want to be with you … Staying away from you is the hardest fucking thing I’ve ever had to do.”

I’m not going to go into details with this one because you just need to dive in and explore it, because every moment is just fantastic. I love their friendship, I love how their relationship develops, I love how they embrace it and how functional it all is even though they don’t just jump right in, and I love the twist in their story which changes everything for them, but creates something truly special. It’s an absolutely beautiful love story with lots of fun, honesty, emotion, dirty flirting, delicious chemistry and hotness. And the feels are fantastic!

“You’ve always really had it.”
“Your loyalty?”
He shook his head. “You said, sometimes you have to let go of the things you never really had. You’ve had my love since day one. You’ve had me since day one. I was just too chicken-shit to admit it.”

Knowing this is the first book in a duet, I knew there was something coming and the moment I figured it out – just moments before the reveal – I literally screamed out loud … while driving down the freeway listening to my audiobook. Holy damn, what an ending! The stage is set for more epicness to come, and I can’t wait for the next book!

“Why are we so scared of each other right now, Rush?”
“Because when you finally accept that you found the one, it’s terrifying that you might lose them and then there’d never be another.”

5 stars!
