Marble isn’t the only thing that’s hard at this museum.

His body is as chiseled as Adonis. His lips are as sculpted as David. And his ego is the size of the Guggenheim.

You know the type—wolfish smile and the gravity of a black hole. The kind of man who sucks all the air from the room the second he enters it. My cocky boss thinks this internship was wasted on me, and he doesn’t hesitate to let me know.

But he’s wrong, and I’m going to prove it to him. If I can stay away from his devil lips, that is. Lips that cut me down and kiss me in the same breath, leaving me certain he’s on a mission to ruin my life.

And maybe my heart.

Review

4.5 stars!

“Every rule, every line, everything I know to be right or wrong is blurred when it comes to you.”

After securing her dream internship in the Renaissance art department at The Met, Rin is determined to give it her all, refusing to let anything stand in her way of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. She thought she knew what to expect going into the internship but nothing could have prepared her for Court, the museum curator and her new boss.

With her quiet and shy demeanor, Rin is easily overlooked; then she arrives dressed to impress and is anything but invisible to Court. He has a strict rule about dating employees – he doesn’t do it – and he isn’t about to start now just because Rin came in a knocked the wind right out of him. However, as he slowly gets to know her, his resolve falters and you know what they say…rules are meant to be broken.

Piece of Work has everything I have come to expect from a Staci Hart rom com. With an original and entertaining storyline, well developed and unique characters, and a sweet and steamy romance, I couldn’t put it down.

Rin is quirky, brilliant, and fun. She had a passion for art and history and her drive to succeed was admirable. She was timid and shy at first and I couldn’t help but feel drawn to her. So many times insecurities can get the best of us but with one leap of faith Rin overcomes them and becomes the person she was always meant to be. I loved watching her confidence grow as she transforms into a fierce woman without letting go of her true self.

I didn’t think I wanted to hide anymore.
I wanted to be seen.

Court is intense. He trusted the wrong person once and it changed the way he sees people. He doesn’t let people in and I totally understand his reasons. He’s hot then cold, leaving Rin a jumbled mess of emotion and me a ball of frustration. Though it takes time to get to know the real Court, when I did I fell hard and fast. He is super sweet, swoony, sexy and all kinds of hot when he finally lets down his guard and opens up to Rin.

I’d built a levee around my heart to keep everything and everyone out. Kissing her had cracked a fissure in the wall. Florence had taken a sledgehammer to that crack, and when the wall had crumbled and the water rushed in, my thirsty, hardened heart had soaked up every drop.

Rin and Court are terrific together. The banter is amusing and I especially enjoyed all the times Rin puts Court in his place. They’re complementary yet they still challenge each other. I felt their connection and the forbidden aspect of the story cranks up the sexual tension until it explodes.

“I’ve wanted to touch you like this for so long,” he whispered against my collarbone, his hand keeping pace as he fucked me with his fingers and palm. “I’ve wanted to know if your lips were as sweet as I imagined.” My body sang with every word, the hot, trembling orgasm rising in me, electrifying my skin. “But I was wrong, Rin.” My ear…he was at my ear, his breath triggering a pulse around his fingers. “It’s so much fucking better.”

Their relationship is rocky from the start with both inside and outside forces working against them and the angst in this story was well paced. I became fully invested in their lives, wanting them to be truly happy, and I found myself desperate to see how things would turn out.

And then there are Rin’s hilarious friends. The Red Lipstick Coalition. I loved them all!! They are such a great group of supporting characters who aren’t scared to tell it like it is. Their support and love is everything to Rin and I can’t wait to see if we’ll get more of them.

From silly to serious and everything in between, Piece of Work has just the right mix of humor, heart, and heat, and I loved it!

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
