5 stars!

“Real love stories never end.”

I always love a good second chance romance so when a friend recommended Paper Hearts I knew I needed to read it. After having my heart broken in Torn Hearts, I was concerned that Claire Contreras wouldn’t be able to put it back together in Paper Hearts. I should have never worried. She crafted a deeply emotional read that had all the feels!! Though it was filled with a lot of heart wrenching moments and tearful scenes, it still made me swoon and smile.

When Jensen and Mia were younger, they shared an all-consuming love. They were best friends, lovers, soul mates. But one decision changed their future forever and ripped their love apart.

He wanted to go after her, beg her to stay with him, for him, but he was scared. He didn’t let her go because he loved her too much to ask her to stay, but because he couldn’t bear to hear her say that she wouldn’t.

Five years later they run into each other again and all the feelings Mia thought she moved on from came rushing back. She fights her emotions toward Jensen, unable to get passed the hurt that consumed her.

Ours was a story that would remain untold, because living it was painful enough.

Jensen knows he made a mistake and he is determined to win Mia back. He will stop at nothing to make things right. They are meant to be together and always have been.

“You can keep walking away from this, and I’m going to keep letting you, because even when you think you leave, your heart always stays, and it’s something I carry with pride.”

Slowly they start to open up again and remember how they were together and how much they loved each other.

I felt something inside of me shift. Some part of me made room for feelings I’d tried to bury. And once that happened, I felt everything. I felt him asking me to forgive him, to let go of the past and embrace this moment. It was then that the tears began to spill, and once they did I couldn’t stop crying.

Paper Hearts took me on an emotion ride. The writing was gorgeous and made me feel everything right along with the characters. I ended up loving Jensen. I was so worried that I would not be able to get over what he did in Torn Hearts. I loved reading his column and how he put his heart on the line, never giving up. We see the struggles Mia goes through while trying to learn to trust him again and I loved when she finally forgives him.

“I’m sorry if I ever made you feel like you didn’t try hard enough to keep me when all you did was show me how every woman deserves to be treated. And for not telling you that you’re enough, because you are; you are enough. You’re more than enough.”

I was hesitant to read Torn Hearts before Paper Hearts because I knew it would be painful to read about Mia and Jensen’s past. In the end, I am so glad I did. It made their past real and that much more emotional. Though I did not agree with Jensen’s decision that ultimately led to their separation, the way Claire Contreras brought them back together was worth all the heartbreak they had to endure.

Spoiler
I wish he did not marry the girl he got pregnant. He could have still supported her and been a huge part of the baby’s life without marrying her.
