4.5 hot, angsty and Inappropriate stars

And OMG, I loved it!

The second book in the Bristol Island series takes us back to the isolated community of Bristol, and an all-consuming yet forbidden romance between hot, local doctor, Cohen, and new-to-town, reclusive romance novelist, Dylan.

Cohen was born and raised on Bristol Island but left to pursue a medical career. He is now back as the only doctor in town and he lives a lonely life because of it – unable to become too involved with people in the community, so as not to breach the doctor/patient ethical code.

Dylan is running from her past and is hoping to find her escape on the island. She has just bought and moved into one of only two houses on a remote peninsula – and her neighbour just happens to be the hot doctor.

Immediately attracted to each other upon meeting, things go awry when Dylan needs medical attention  (of the extremely personal kind) and Cohen is the only person who can give it to her, thereby ruining any chance of the two of them having an uncomplicated and ‘appropriate’ relationship.

“Have you ever made a quick impetuous decision, not really thinking of the consequences? You just…. say yes when you should have said no.”

OMG, this book is intense! You can feel the longing between both Cohen and Dylan. They want each other so much, are so drawn to each other that each little interaction between them is dripping with not only epic sexual tension, but a yearning that borders on painful!

It hurts to want something so much that you can’t have.

“I don’t know how to stop wanting you”

But epic lust and the promise of something more isn’t something that can be ignored, and amidst raging hormones, tension-filled gazes and inappropriate declarations, the angst levels are high as they try to resist the only thing either of them want. And it all comes to a head when Cohen decides that a chance with Dylan is worth the risk to his career and his reputation, and they both fall headfirst into an intense and passionate relationship.

“Does your skin tingle and prickle when I’m around like your entire body is desperate to be touched? … Do your fingers tremble, your heart race, your throat tighten up as though it’s going to suffocate you if you don’t get what you need?”
“Yes,” she whispered. It was more than a damn good explanation.
“Does the thought of losing this make your insides turn black and your soul feel like it’s shattering into a thousand pieces?”

OMG, these two together are incredible. Cohen is sex on a stick, he likes it rough, he likes it frequent, and the man has a dirty, dirty mouth! Elizabeth Finn is a fan of graphic and descriptive love scenes and this book had me fanning myself on multiple occasions as Cohen and Dylan cave into their sizzling chemistry. But it’s not all about the sex, they have a connection that is both deep and seemingly effortless – when it’s just the two of them, that is. But the problem is, real life for them and their situation is far from easy.

“I just want a chance at something more with you.”

Despite the ethical dilemma that comes from Cohen being in a relationship with a patient that he has treated intimately, Dylan is hiding a painful secret from her past that threatens to destroy not only her happiness with Cohen, but also further damage his future. And then there is Randall, the evil fucker that everybody loves to hate, and when he involves himself in the middle of the situation and starts to stir up drama, things get angsty, nasty, and totally heartbreaking.

I felt so much while reading this book! I was swept up in the romance, and absolutely devastated with all that Cohen and Dylan have to go through. It’s definitely not an easy road, but their love and passion for each other is incredibly strong, and watching them come together, work through their issues, and then stand strong to face their obstacles was absolutely fantastic. And OMG, sooooo freaking swoony!

“You are the best mistake I could have ever made, and if ever there was a rule to be broken, it was the one that would have made us impossible.” He pulled back, focusing on her. “I … regret … nothing.”

Cohen is incredible! Not only is he a nice guy with a huge heart (and a bit of a nasty side which is revealed in the bedroom), but he is real. He makes mistakes and he lashes out, but it just shows how passionate he is, and the man can grovel like a champion. He is willing to sacrifice everything for the woman he loves, and his determination to be with her no matter what absolutely stole my heart!

“I don’t want just one night with you,” he said. “I want so many we lose track.”

This book can technically be read as a standalone, but fans of the first book in the series, The Fight for Us, will be happy to know that there is lots of Isaiah and Joss in the story. Cohen is great friends with them both, and the couples become very close. I loved getting to see the two of them together and happy now that their dramas are all over.

We also get introduced to Cohen’s big brother, Caleb, and he is amazing! A total scene stealer, I absolutely love him. The brothers have an incredibly close relationship – the best of friends, they are loving and supportive, yet constantly throwing shit at each other. The interactions between them had me clenching my heart and then laughing at the way they tease. I so hope he gets his own book.

Once again Elizabeth Finn’s has written a story that grabbed hold of my heart, and didn’t let go. Hot and steamy, dramatic, funny, and beautifully romantic, I loved every moment of it.

4.5 stars.
