ABSOLUTE FREAKING PERFECTION!

This book gave me everything that I wanted! It picks up the story several months after the ending of Find You in the Dark, and we get both Clay and Maggie’s POVs as they struggle to pick up the pieces of their lives and move on after the shattering events of the last book.

Clay and Maggie are apart for the first part of the book. Both desperately trying to find a way to move on without each other. When a tragedy brings him home to Davidson, they are thrust back into each other’s worlds, unable to stay away from each other. Their love for each other is still very much there, but they have a twisted and dysfunctional past, as well as very serious issues in the present. There are massive obstacles for them to overcome if they want to be together.

But Maggie is absolutely committed to Clay.

“I still hung onto the hope that my broken knight would gallop back into my life and sweep me off my feet.”

“My feelings hadn’t changed. And even though I didn’t trust him with my heart, it was his nonetheless.”

And Clay is absolutely determined to be a better man – for Maggie and for himself.

“God, I loved her. She was the piece I had been missing for the last three months. She was everything I wanted in my life but was still unsure I deserved.”

“You are everything good in my life. Even when I thought all I had was the darkness, you were there. And you gave me something to live for. I couldn’t let you go. No matter how hard I tried. I know now that’s because to lose you would be losing the very best part of myself.”

This is a super emotional read. There are ups and downs, and you feel everything right alongside the characters. But it’s also incredibly realistic. There is no easy fix in this story. Even though Clay and Maggie love each other deeply, they have to work at being together, and trying to create a life together – Clay, in particular, has a lot of work to do. And I loved that their struggle was laid out for us in fantastic detail. It was emotionally raw and honest, but also sensitive and absolutely beautiful.

These are the kind of characters that stay with you forever. They both have their vulnerabilities, but they are both incredibly strong, and I admire them so much for all that they go through, how they cope with it while it’s all happening, their honesty with each other, the decisions they make, and their devotion to each other without being totally stupid about it. They have both changed so much from the characters we met in the first book, and I love how they are both so willing to face the realities of their situation and fight hard for what they want.

“Ignoring things didn’t make them go away. It only made it harder to face them when they finally came around to beat the shit out of you.”

Clay and Maggie’s story is absolutely incredible, and I have loved every minute of their journey. As a bonus, we get to follow Daniel and Rachel’s story, which fits alongside the main storyline brilliantly. And we get to see all four of these beloved characters in a sensational epilogue which closes off the story beautifully.

I laughed, I cried, I squeed and I swooned. I totally and utterly loved it.

“I can only say, with one hundred percent certainty that I love you. That I live and breathe for you. That I would lay down my life a million times over for you. And no matter what happens tomorrow, next week, next year, my heart will always be yours.”

5 shining stars.
