Delve into the most eagerly anticipated book in New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall’s “utterly addictive” (RT Book Reviews), “fast-paced and humorous” (Publishers Weekly) Immortal Guardians series.

Seth has led the Immortal Guardians for thousands of years. With them fighting by his side, he has protected humans from psychotic vampires, defeated corrupt mercenary armies, defended military bases under attack, and more. But the latest enemy to rise against the Immortal Guardians has proven to be a formidable one, wielding almost as much power as Seth. His goal is simple. He wants to watch the world burn. And he will use every means at his disposal to accomplish it. Seth and his Immortal Guardians have succeeded thus far in staving off Armageddon despite heartbreaking losses. But they have never before faced such danger. Seth has only one wish: to protect his Immortal Guardians family and ensure the continuation of humanity by defeating his foe. But then Leah walks into his life and sparks a new desire.

Leah Somerson has suffered losses of her own. It has taken her a long time to rebuild her life and find some semblance of peace. Then one night a tall, dark, powerful immortal with what appears to be the weight of the world on his shoulders stumbles into her shop, and everything changes. Peace and contentment are no longer enough. Now she wants more. She wants to find happiness. She wants to erase the darkness in Seth’s eyes and replace it with love and laughter. She knows he’s different in ways that make most fear him. Even some of his immortal brethren keep a careful distance. But Leah will not. Nor will she shy away when danger strikes.

Top 5 Reasons to Love Leah

Hello! Thank you so much for joining me today. I’m very happy to be here at The Escapist Book Blog, celebrating the release of DEATH OF DARKNESS, the ninth book in my Immortal Guardians series. If you’re new to the series, don’t worry. The novels and novellas can be read as stand alones. You’ll just be more familiar with the secondary characters if you read them in order. So if you love powerful immortal heroes who adore strong women, heroines who can kick-ass, and like a lot of action, passion and humor mixed into your romance, then I think you’ll enjoy this book.

Today I thought I would help you get to know Leah, the heroine of DEATH OF DARKNESS, by giving you five reasons Seth falls in love with her.

1

She’s good with different

He sighed. “I can shape-shift.”

Leah blinked and tried very hard not to gape again. That was definitely a doozy. “Like a werewolf?”

“Yes. But it’s entirely voluntary and has nothing to do with the moon. I can also shift into the shape of any living creature I wish to, not just that of a wolf, though the smaller the creature, the more difficult the task is. And I’m still me,” he hastened to assure her, “when I take an animal’s form. I don’t start thinking like an animal or anything like that.”

She stared at him.

“Leah?”

“Yeah. You’re going to have to show me that one.”

He released her hand. “Is there any animal in particular you’d like me to change into?”

She shook her head. “Just… something that won’t make me pee my pants.”

He laughed.

2

She has a great sense of humor.

Seth scowled and decreed sternly, “Do NOT read her mind, telepaths. I expressly forbid it.  Zach, you and David may read Leah’s mind only in the case of a dire emergency. The rest of you may not. Do so against my wishes and you will suffer my wrath.”

Leah nodded somberly. “Seth told me that many of you see him as something of a father figure.”  Leaning into his side, she gave his chest a little pat. “Trust me when I say you do NOT want to read my mind and see the kinky sh** daddy does in bed.”

Eyes widened as over a dozen mouths fell open.

Seth threw back his head and laughed.

3

She has the same insecurities so many of us do.

His brow furrowed. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Nothing she wanted to talk about anyway.

“Don’t lie to me,” he implored gently. “I felt the change in your emotions and want you to be able to speak freely with me when something upsets you.”

Silently, she swore. She had forgotten about his empathic ability and all it probably revealed to him.

“Please, Leah.”

Unable to deny him, she nodded, though she felt—for the first time with Seth—a reluctance to talk. “I don’t like you touching them,” she admitted, having to force the words past her lips.

“Your scars?”

Again she nodded. The backs of her eyes began to burn.

His gaze fell to the ridges on her abdomen, then the ones on her knees. “Do they hurt?”

Swallowing hard, she shook her head.

“Then why does it bother you when I touch them?”

Unwanted tears welled. “Because they’re ugly.” And Seth was perfect from head to toe.

He frowned. “They’re a part of you, Leah. Nothing that is a part of you could ever be ugly to me.”

4

She’s honest

Her lips turned up in a smile. “Remember how I said I’m a total workaholic?”

“Yes.” Now her thumb stroked his hand, sending warmth all the way up his arm, through his shoulder, and into his chest.

“Well, I’ve been trying to ease back on that a little lately, but it’s been so long that I have no idea what to do with downtime.”

“I understand completely. David has been insisting I delegate more authority lately and take some time off, but…” He shrugged. “When I’m not working, I always feel like I SHOULD be working and find myself at loose ends.”

“Exactly! This is going to sound lame, but… I don’t get out much. And tonight, when the walls started closing in on me, I figured a drive in the country might be nice because I couldn’t think of anything else to do. Then I got here, you opened the door, and I thought: Oh crap, he’s going to think I’m a total stalker.”

“Not at all.” Seth raised their clasped hands and grinned. “I merely assumed you wanted to see my big hands again.”

Laughing, she gave his shoulder a shove. “You’re such a tease!”

His heart lightened. “Admitted without shame.”

“Well, I’ll forgive you,” she quipped, “because you’re letting me hold your hand.” Drawing their clasped hands closer to her face, she cupped her free hand over them and smoothed circles over his as she assumed a comical expression of amazement. “Oooooooh. So big,” she breathed.

Seth laughed.

5

She’s strong and brave, but can still be flustered

She tapped on the bathroom door. “Ready for clothes?”

The door swung inward.

Leah stared. “Holy crap.” Seth was naked, save for a towel he had wrapped around his hips.  And his body was pure perfection. His arms and legs both bore beautiful, thick muscle. But not too thick like some of the bodybuilders she’d seen whose arms and legs were so bulky they couldn’t rest their arms against their sides and seemed to walk bowlegged. Seth was built more like a professional basketball player. Broad shoulders. A well-developed chest. Even his abs rippled with muscle and begged to be touched.

Realizing she had been staring—aka drooling—she looked up at him. “Seriously, how are you still single?”

But Seth wasn’t looking at her face. His eyes were fastened on her body.

Her breath caught when a faint golden glow illuminated his dark brown irises.

“I was going to ask you the same thing,” he murmured, his voice deeper than usual and husky with what she thought might be desire.

A thrill rippling through her, Leah glanced down. Her eyes widened.

The rain that had found its way past the awning out front had plastered her pajamas to her skin. Her white tank top had been rendered transparent, clearly defining her breasts. It had also ridden up when she’d retrieved the towels, exposing a strip of bare flesh at her waist. Her striped pants weren’t quite as transparent but hung low on her hips, clung to her thighs, and showed a shadow of the dark curls at their juncture.

“Oh sh**.” Heat crept up her neck into her cheeks. She shoved the clothing at him. “Here. I’ll be back.” Hurrying up the hallway, she ducked into her bedroom and closed the door.

He might as well have seen her naked!
