Review

Following on from the heart-wrenching ordeal of Thoughtless, right from the start of this one we find Keira and Kellan deliriously happy, functional and deeply in love. And it is AWESOME! There is a lot of time spent with the two of them, seeing them settled into life together after their traumatic start, with heaps of gorgeous little moments that had me grinning and squeeing like an idiot.

The story really starts to get interesting when Kellan’s band, the D-bags, find some success and land a six month, cross-country tour to support a major rock band. This is a huge challenge to Kiera and Kellan’s relationship as all of their old insecurities come up, and trust becomes a major issue for them. No matter how much they love each other, Kellan has a history as a massive man whore, with groupies hanging off him at every turn, while Kiera’s history of betraying a loved one is well known. But, with swoony declarations, promises to be faithful, and a REALLY steamy farewell (whew!!!), Kellan and the boys hit the road, leaving their girls behind *sniff*.

And here comes the angst – with the distance between them, misunderstands, secrets, and the past coming back to confuse things even further, there is a lot of drama. And again I wanted to throw my kindle at the wall (or, even better, at Kiera). It’s so painful when you see the doubt start to creep in, and you watch them endure heartache (and heartbreak *sniff*) that is actually really unecessary. I wanted to shake them both and make them communicate, and it’s frustrating as all hell, but it’s not as gut wrenching as Thoughtless because you can feel the depth of their love, and you know how strongly committed they are to each other, and that it will all be ok.

“You…seared me. That’s making love. That is something that none of them have over you. You are…unforgettable…and I love you.”

“My day isn’t complete until I’m deep inside you. Your body wrapped around mine is the only way I feel whole. But don’t think it’s just sex and a physical response to you that I’m feeling. It’s not…it’s so much more. You’ve opened me in a way that leaves me bleeding, vulnerable. Being with you, making love to you, it only solidifies what I feel for you. I know that I’ve become one of those spouting, love-sick idiots, but what it all boils down to is three words that don’t mean nearly enough…I love you.”

Kiera wasn’t as irritating in this book as she was in the first. She definitely had her moments of stupid, but she’s growing. And I like that she’s learning from her mistakes and recognising that she needs to cope with being on her own, and finding a life for herself outside of her relationship. What really annoyed me was her secret keeping…

Spoiler
Like Kellan wasn’t going to find out about Denny being back in town and the two of them suddenly being BFFs… really?

…and she was so quick to jump to conclusions. Yes, Kellan’s history is bad, but hers isn’t exactly stellar either! My heart broke at the lack of faith she had in him.

“I love you, Kiera…please believe in me.”

Kellan is pure AWESOME! Although he does have some moments of conclusion-jumping himself, I can forgive him because he’s just so incredible. He is so in love with Kiera, and he’s not afraid to shout it to the world. His declarations of love and romantic moments (kissing her from the stage? OMG!) had me swooning over and over again.

“You finally get it.” …
“Get what?” …
“That I’m yours… that you can take me… anywhere, anytime, anyway. That you own every piece of me.”

“I know that I have to be with you. Everything else is just …. details.”

And OMG, can that man write a love note!!! SWOOOOOOOON!!!

Spoiler

I hid this one in the hopes that you would find it long after I’m gone. I hope you find this months from now, when I’m still out there, on the road, away from you. I can’t imagine what the time apart has done to us. I’m hoping we’re closer. I’m hoping we’re more in love than ever. I’m hoping that when I come back, you’ll move in with me. In all honesty, I’m hoping that when I come back you’ll agree to marry me someday. Because that’s what I want, what I dream about. You, mine, for the rest of my life. I hope you feel the same…because I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you so much. But if for some reason we’re not closer, if something has come between us, please, I’m begging you…don’t give up on me. Stay. Stay with me. Work it out with me. Just don’t leave me…please. I love you, always Kellan

There are some major side stories that blend in nicely with the romantic storyline, and I can’t wait to see how they play out in the next book. We also get to see a fair bit of Kiera’s friends, and of course the hilarious Anna and the rest of the D-bags in all of their D-bag glory… Griffin…

“Well, what’s the point of being a rock star if I can’t bang the groupies?”
Rolling my eyes, I found myself muttering, “I thought it was supposed to be about the music?”
Griffin, unfortunately, heard a sullen comment and chose to respond to it. “No, no, I’m pretty sure it’s the pussy.”

I absolutely love this book. The romance is so gorgeously written, and again the emotion is right out there and you feel all of the ups and downs with them. This was a reread for me, and I still treasured every moment of Kiera and Kellan together. And all of the drama and angst is totally worth it for the absolutely swoon-tastic ending, which is so beautiful it had me in tears. *dreamy sigh*

5 sappy, romantic stars.
