Review

Another sensational read from Madeline Sheehan.
AND GODDAMN, I WANT A HOT, BADASS, FOUL-MOUTHED BIKER BOY!!!

Danny and Ripper…

“Ours was the furthest thing from a picture-perfect romance; it was more of a car crash, a metal-bending, blood-splattered disaster that left no survivors, only bad memories and heartache.
But it was ours.
And because it was ours…I wouldn’t change a thing.”

That quote came from the prologue of this book. By the end of the prologue, I was hooked. By the end of the first chapter, I had already rated 5 stars and was bouncing up and down in my chair, so freaking excited to read the rest of the book.

Fair warning too – I’ve gone all quote-whore in my review again. Deal with it.

This book starts where Undeniable finishes, and we are straight back into the world of the Hell’s Horsemen MC. Deuce and Eva are (at last) happily married, and Deuce’s daughter Danny, and club member, Ripper have some INTENSE chemistry going on, but despite all of the eye fuckery, there is some major animosity between them. They clearly have history, and there is one EPIC moment, before the story moves back to three years previously to get the start of their story.

As the daughter of a MC Prez, 18 year old Danny has grown up in the biker world. “A world of constant crime and cruelty, a cold world full of despair and death”. She has always been a spirited, happy and vibrant girl, but with the fallout of the events at the end of Undeniable (before the HEA epilogue), her life has fallen to pieces, and she is struggling to cope. And then along comes Ripper. He has been left horrifically scarred after being brutally tortured in the first book, and is still nursing a whole heap of issues. At 32 years old, he is 14 years older than Danny, but the two of them come together unexpectedly one night, and it irrevocably alters them both.

Unable to stay away from each other, they engage in a clandestine affair – kept secret because of Deuce’s club rules that nobody is to touch his baby girl. And above all else, Ripper is loyal to his club, his brothers, and to his President.

“He was fucked. He was so fucking fucked.”

“If your old man caps me, you better be front and center at my fuckin’ funeral, cryin’ your goddamn eyes out.”

Theirs is an intense and all consuming love. They fall fast, and they fall hard, and together they are absolutely SMOKING HOT!!! There is some sensational character development as the two of them find strength in each other, but one tragic event brings it all to a screeching halt. And in order to protect Danny, and thinking that she is better off without him (ugh, why do guys do that???), he takes off, shattering them both.

Told in dual POV, we get to see both of them try to move on, and my heart broke over and over again at everything they went through, and the circumstances they are forced to deal with. And when they inevitably come face to face again, there is still so much feeling between them, their love and anger practically explode off the page, but there are even more obstacles between them now, and they still have so much more to face! There is lots of heartache, and plenty of ‘oh fuck’ moments, not only for Danny and Ripper, but for the rest of the MC, and it’s one helluva ride!

FUCK THIS SHIT.
Fuck the club and the code, and fuck brotherhood. He would give it all up for her. For his woman. Because she sure as shit was his, and he’d go to hell and back ten times over before he lost her forever.

And oh joy, there is a lots of Deuce and Eva time! The majority of this book is retrospective, and so we get to see them suffering through the after effects of the ending of Undeniable. And it is utterly heartbreaking! Seeing them so torn up after everything that they had been through was just devastating! But thank God, we got to see the moment where it all turns around for them, and even though I knew the outcome, I was still cheering.

“I love you,” she cried softly. “No one else, baby, not like this, not the way I’ve always loved you.”
“How much do you love me?” he asked hoarsely …
“You already know,” she whimpered. “You’re everything to me, everything, you always have been, baby…”

“Eva,” he rasped, cupping the back of her head and forcing her to look at him. “Marry me, darlin’.”

And a big shout out to Danny’s big brother Cage. He’s a total manwhore…

“Motherfuck,” Deuce muttered, staring after him. “Ten bucks says he fucked that mouthy little asshole. Motherfuckin’ little fuck can’t keep it in his pants for shit. Cocksucker would fuck a hole in the wall. Probably has.”

… but he is beautifully protective of his baby sister.

“Coulda fuckin’ told me, little sister,” he said quietly. “Would never let you go through all this shit by yourself.”
Grabbing my hand, he threaded his large fingers through mine and squeezed. “This is what big brothers are fuckin’ here for … To pick their little sisters up when they fall the fuck down.”

He’s a total mini-Deuce and I love him. His story is set up very nicely, and I’m excited for the fireworks which I am sure are to come!

There are other storylines woven throughout the book involving the other members of the MC. It’s good, it’s bad, and it’s shocking, but it all adds to the biker world, and to the reality of the lifestyle. And the banter between the boys is sensational!

“Who’s fuckin’ pussy-whipped now, asshat?” Cox laughed over his shoulder. “That would be you, bitch!”
“You did not just call me a bitch!” Mick roared, chasing him.
“Bitch! I fuckin’ did! Bitch!”

While, for me, this book didn’t have the shocking ‘in-your-face-what-the-fuck-did-I-just-read?’ punch that Undeniable did, it is still an absolutely fantastic book. The writing is phenomenal, it’s vivid and real, and completely sucks you into the story. And once again, Madeline pulls no punches when creating her biker world. It’s dirty, brutal, violent, and shocking at times, yet the bond of the brotherhood is incredibly strong, and she still manages to make you care about her characters – even when they do horribly deplorable things. Plus we get not one, but two beautiful (although slightly fucked up) love stories featuring four broken, but incredible characters that are absolutely unforgettable.

I loved every single moment of this book, I wish it was longer.

5 sensational stars.
