Review

I loved this book!!! The second in the ‘Neighbor from Hell’ series, was just as fun and fluffy as the first book – Playing for Keeps.

Despite sharing the same building, Trevor and Zoe don’t have much to do with each other. Until the night that Trevor, being a Bradford and completely obsessed with food, steals Zoe’s pizza when it is delivered to their house. Instant dislike! Who does that? Anyway, Zoe (having had the WORST day ever) confronts him and Trevor fights back, being viciously cruel in the process. Realising what an asshole he was, he tries his hardest to make amends, and the two of them settle into an ‘almost friends’ situation where they help each other out. This slowly develops into a tentative friendship, and then again into a ‘friends with benefits’ arrangement which suits them both perfectly. Neither wants the complication of an actual relationship, they both just want sex, and lots of it… and that’s exactly what they get. Phew!! Lotsa hotness! But then, as expected, things get complicated.

Unlike his cousin Jason in book 1 (who we get to see lots of – squeee), Trevor is not instantly likeable – he is a selfish, arrogant asshole, with a bit of a mean streak. He has an idea of perfection in his head for the kind of woman he wants, and it is pretty much the opposite of the shy, overweight, make-up-less, and “frumpy” Zoe. He agrees to their arrangement as he is strangely obsessed with her, and figures that he’ll enjoy himself while he waits for his ideal woman to come along (I know! Asshole, right?). However as he gets to know Zoe, his perception starts to change and watching him justify his deepening relationship with Zoe while he remains completely oblivious to what he is actually feeling is so freaking funny.

He looked at the beautiful woman frowning up at him and his cock did nothing. His eyes shot back to Zoe and damn if his cock didn’t twitch happily. Trevor swallowed hard as realization hit.
There was something wrong with his dick.

And then he starts to realise there may be more to it than he originally thought…

Well, fuck her, because he didn’t need her.
This wasn’t going to last anyway. He’d have ended things in another fifty or sixty years.

Zoe is very likable. She is very much alone when Trevor comes into her life, and I loved how accepting of him she was, letting him into her life, but still being strong enough to come back with the snarkiness when he deserved it. She even reads him the Twilight books through the wall of their bedrooms at night, promising him from the first book that they are almost up to the sex part, LOL. It was Zoe’s drunken rantings which led to the ‘arrangement’ between them, and being much more aware of her emotions, she knows early on that she’s falling for Trevor, and I liked the way she handled it without getting all neurotic.

There are lots of steamy moments in this book, lots of laugh and great banter. But there are also some serious moments as Zoe deals with her weight issues, and Trevor comes to realise what he really needs, and then tries to convince Zoe of that. His transformation from selfish bastard into swoony, romantic hero is gorgeous.

“I just want you, Trevor,” she said, knowing nothing else mattered as long as she had him.
“You have me, sweetheart,” he said, pulling away just far enough so that he could look into her eyes. “I promise you will always have me.”

SWOOOOOOON!!! I love these books and can’t wait for the next in the series!!!

I’ll leave you with some words of wisdom from Jason…

“We all fuck up when it comes to our women and you will too. The key is to make her love you more than you piss her off,” Jason added. “It’s a very delicate balance.”

I loved it – 4.5 stars.
