5 ‘I LOVE THE BEAST’ STARS

14 books into the Black Dagger Brotherhood and you might think that the series is losing some of it’s magic. But nope, nope, nope! 14 books in, and JR Ward is still bringing stories that hold you absolutely captivated, and now that she’s revisiting the original brothers, it’s even better! And OMG, I loved this book! I laughed, I cried, and I devoured every word!

The Beast brings us back to Rhage and Mary. Their book, Lover Eternal is one of my favourites of the series, and Rhage is definitely one of my favourite Brothers. I loved being back with him, and seeing this next stage in his and “his” Mary’s life was absolutely sensational!

This is a couple who are very much in love but who are in a unique situation in terms of their future, their mortality, and limitations that they are forced to live with. And in stunningly beautiful scenes, they come to realise what they have sacrificed in order to be together – not that they regret anything! The way these two deal with their issues is functional and heart-felt, and as they come to a new place in their relationship, the extent of their love for each other is absolutely beautiful!

“You are, and will always remain, the most perfect mate on earth, and the single best thing that ever happened to me.”
As her eyes teared up again, she smiled. “How is it possible….that you always make me feel so beautiful?”
He kissed her once, and then again. “I’m just reflecting back what I see and know to be true. I’m nothing but a mirror, Mary mine. Now will you let me kiss you again?

I loved the direction that their story took – no great surprise to fans of the series – and I was in tears as it all played out. And though it’s heartbreaking at times, through it all they stand strong together, and I loved that we got to see all of the different sides to their relationship – the seriously hot, the breathtakingly romantic, and the sweet fun moments that show that they they are still just a ‘normal’ couple

Mary had to smile at him. “You slay me.”
“And you could lay me? Please?”

Rhage continues to be a favourite. A seriously strong fighter with a heart of gold and hoplessly and unashamedly in love with his shellan, the man (vamp) is absolutely awesome in every way, and I couldn’t get enough of him. Every little scene had me completely enraptured, and I fell for him even more.

And as if Rhage isn’t awesome enough on his own, there’s also Vishous POV. Aaaaaahh!! My two faves together in one book! It’s a wonder I didn’t expire with bliss!

And as always, there’s also a fair bit of action with other storylines woven throughout the book. Layla’s story continues to develop, and her big moment finally arrives – and once again in was in tears watching it all unfold. Assail has a big part to play, and I really enjoyed his POV. His side story has been developing over the last few books, and I love him as a character, and I’m really excited to see where his story is going.

And then there are some massive bombs dropped! Newly introduced character Jo has a seemingly separate storyline and I was wondering where it was all going, but that great twist at the end ensures that she’ll be appearing again! And the Xcor thing! Whoa. I am so ready for his and Layla’s book! It’s going to be amazing! And then there’s the epic twist with the Scribe Virgin!!! WTF????

Spoiler
She’s… ‘dead’? But who cares, the set up is there for Lassiter to take over, and OMG, that would be EPIC if that’s the case!

Filled with the action, excitement, humour, heart-felt moments, passionate romance, fantastic character dynamics and Ward-isms that I have come to expect, this is a fantastic addition to the series, and a must-read for fans of the series.

I freaking loved it!

5 stars.
