Blurb

Two weeks before her wedding, Remi Montague’s fiancé drops her faster than a drunken sorority girl in stilettos. Armed with her best friend and a bottle of tequila, she hops a plane to London to drown her sorrows before fall semester begins at Whitman University.

She didn’t plan on attending a masquerade party.

She sure didn’t plan on waking up next to the British bad boy who broke her heart three years ago—the devastatingly handsome and naked Dax Blay. Furthermore, she has no clue how they acquired matching tattoos.

Once back at Whitman together, they endeavor to pretend they never had their night of unbridled passion in London.

But that’s damn hard to do when you live in the same house…

One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.

Review

4.5 “Mr. Beautiful” stars!

Filthy English, written by Ilsa Madden-Mills, is “a modern love story inspired by Romeo and Juliet,” and I loved it! This book is a sexy, funny, angsty, and sweet second-chance romance. It’s the second book in the English series, following Dirty English, but can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed Dirty English, but I loved Filthy English even more! With fantastic characters and an awesome storyline, this book peaked my interest immediately.

Remi is a beautiful, sweet, smart, funny girl who once upon a time found love. But her heart was broken and she knew she would never be the same; so when looking for her next relationship, she didn’t want the passion she once felt.

I’d had that – a long time ago.
That kind of passion can cut you open and rip your heart out with a spoon.
I never wanted that kind of love lust again.

Remi tried to move on with another only to be dumped two weeks before her wedding. Crushed by the breakup, she and her best friend, Lulu, travel to London to get away. Remi is not the one-night stand kind of girl but that might be just what she needs after her relationship went south. At Masquerade, a London nightclub, she dons a mask and tries to let go.

Enter “Mr. Beautiful.” Dax Blay, who we met in Dirty English, finds himself in London for the summer keeping his cousin, Spider, out of trouble. As the “self-proclaimed Sex Lord of Whitman,” he is used to having a different girl in his bed every month. He hasn’t been with anyone since taking a dare of celibacy, and now he’s antsy to find the perfect girl to break his dry spell.

Remi and Dax find themselves at the same nightclub in London, and hidden behind masks, they do not immediately recognize each other. Things quickly change when they share a kiss though. This kiss is magic, and wonderful, and perfect…and Dax knows in an instant that it is Remi.

Remi and Dax don’t just jump into things though. They have a complicated past, and what could have been the start of a wonderful relationship was ruined from the start.

Slowly though, they begin to open themselves up. They truly understand each other and why they act the way they do. It is clear that there are strong emotions at play and they can’t seem to stay away from each other. Dax has intense feelings for Remi but he has never been in a relationship; he doesn’t know if he can even make one work, and Remi doesn’t know if she could get over their past. They try so hard to start over, to be just friends, but they keep finding themselves fighting the pull surrounding them. Fear on both sides threaten any chance at a future, but can they make something work?

“Let go, Remi,” he whispered. “Feel what’s between us. Just one kiss. I promise.”

He kissed me, owning my lips with lust and passion, and slowly, ever so softly, I went down the rabbit hole with him, where the entire world whispered
yes, him.

But their second chance is ripped away, and now, Remi and Dax are stuck living together struggling with the feelings they believe they shouldn’t have and are unable to be together. Soon it proves to be too difficult to continue with they way things have been and something has to break. Will it be their hearts?

I loved Filthy English! Ilsa made both Dax and Remi broken, complex characters that were totally relatable. I loved them together. They understood each other and they had all the feelings of love but just couldn’t accept it and see things for what they were. I hated what they each went through that made them fear love. I loved the intesnse chemistry they have and this steam they produced.

The banter between the two is fantastic and the inner dialogue of both Remi and Dax was hilarious. Giving themselves pep talks about what they should and should not be feeling was comical. They tried so hard to stay away but fate had other plans and I am so glad with how things turned out.

There were no coincidences in life, only fate pushing you toward one another.
He was my imperfect soul mate, and every tiny thread in the universe had stitched my heart to his, piecing us together, fashioning us into something that was, in my mind, absolutely perfect.

I loved Dax! I was so intrigued with him when he was introduced in Dirty English and am so glad I got to read his story. He is so scared of love that it hurt to see him avoid it. Not really knowing what his feelings meant, he had a hard time going after what he wanted and I am so glad he finally realized the truth. He is intense and all kinds of sexy, and OMG, when he talks! You just wish you were at the receiving end of his words! He made me swoon throughout the book especially when he was just being himself.

She was my light, my breath. She was my Juliet.
Only we’d have a happy endng. I’d make sure of it.

I adored Remi! She was a hoot and her POV and inner voice had me giggling throughout the book. She was so strong and had to go through so much, and my heart hurt for her when she revealed her secrets. I did wish she figured out the whole Hartford thing earlier, but I still loved the story.

The secondary characters were great as well. I loved seeing Declan and Elizabeth, and Lulu and Spider were great! The support they all showed Remi and Dax was wonderful and they were awesome friends to have.

There was a point where I was worried about the decisions Remi and Dax were making and I wanted to knock some sense into them. The story could have taken a turn for the worse, but never fear, Ilsa made it all work out in the end and even gave us a wonderful epilogue.

Excerpt

Without much thought except for comfort, instinctively I pressed myself against him, fitting into his arms as easy as breathing. He leaned against the brick wall of the neighboring building and wrapped me up, sensing my need to be grounded.

I don’t know how long we stood like that—maybe a minute, maybe five—but soon our breaths were in sync; the rise and fall of his chest in perfect accord with mine.

One of his hands traced down my spine and then up. He outlined my shoulder blades with his fingertips. His hands drifted to my hips then caressed back up to my hair, massaging my scalp.

But what had started as an innocent hug changed.

Fire licked my skin everywhere he touched. Of their own accord, my hands slid down to his waist and teased the line where his jeans rested on his hips. I went further, my fingers toying with the V at his hip until I felt him harden against me.

Lips brushed the top of my hair. “Remi . . . look at me,” he said, his voice raspy.

If you look up, you’re going to kiss him . . .

I tilted my head up and his mouth fused with mine in an instant.

Insistent. Wild. Hot. Yes! This is what I needed.

I groaned, and my hands rushed to his shoulders and dug in.

He was wrong—terribly wrong—for me, but it felt so right.

I felt wonderfully alive, revved up, as if I could crush a car with my bare hands, or push Dax against the wall and fuck him senseless. I recognized the feeling for what it was—an I almost-died-and-now-I-want-to-experience-life feeling.

“Wait,” he breathed as I ran my hand under his shirt. “It’s adrenaline. You’ve been through a trauma. You don’t really want this—”

“Shhh.” I lifted his shirt and kissed his chest, my tongue flicking over his nipple. “You taste like every good thing I’ve ever wanted.”

His taut restraint snapped, and he swayed into me. “God, I can’t tell you no.”
