OMG, my mind has been blown! I freaking love this series, and this is the best book yet!

So much happened! I’m still sitting here trying to wrap my head around everything that I just read. But let’s start with Wraith. SWOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Wraith is the youngest of the three Seminus Demon brothers featured in the Demonica series – logical, responsible Eidolon, charming playboy Shade, and reckless bad boy Wraith. All incredibly hot and totally sexy of course.

Part of Wraith’s appeal – apart from the fact that he is gorgeous, sarcastically hilarious and, oh yeah, a total badass – is his insistence on doing what he wants and taking whoever he wants, whenever he wants. He is completely selfish and unapologetic about his behaviour, and revels in the dark and dirtiness of his half demon-half vampire nature.

The story begins with Wraith being poisoned by an assassin. The only known cure is a ‘charm’ held by a Marked Sentinel – Serena – a human blessed by angels, and the guardian of an object vital to the wellbeing of humanity. Turns out the ‘charm’ is her virginity, and in order to survive, Wraith has to take it. However the charm is the only thing keeping her alive, and if Wraith takes it, she will die. No problem for a moral-free badass with magical, demon-based powers of seduction, right?

Serena is an archaeologist / treasure hunter of sorts – sort of like a hot, young, blonde Indiana Jones-type character with heaps of sass. Wraith catches up with her while she is on a job in Egypt, and when he impersonates somebody who has been sent to help her, the two of them end up working together (with her never even suspecting that he isn’t human). But Wraith is already suffering from the effects of the poison – he is slowly dying, and as he does, his overtly sexual, Seminal nature is subdued. So he is no longer a sex-crazed horndog, and instead we get to see a more in-control, flirty and seductive Wraith, and it’s awesome!

The banter between Wraith and Serena is dynamite. She is a brilliant character, and I loved her instantly. She is brave, smart and feisty, with a bit of a vampire fetish. She knows the power that she holds, and as attracted as she is to Wraith, she is protective of her charm, and is determined to resist him. But sweetly seductive Wraith is impossible to resist, and they develop a friendship that slowly evolves into more and the chemistry between them is off the freaking charts! UST anybody? Thank God they are able to get a bit of touchy-feely in, and Wraith still has enough demon-power left to induce one helluva smutty dream, otherwise poor Serena (and me) may have combusted! But never fear smut-lovers, there is still plenty of hotness to be found.

Wraith has always refused to have sex with humans, repulsed by them following the trauma in his past, and he is shocked to find that he is attracted to Serena. And let me tell you, watching him fall for her, seeing him realise it, fight it, and then totally cave into it was brilliant! He has kept himself closed off his entire life, and I loved getting to see him finally openly care for somebody. He is gentle, tender, affectionate, caring and uber-protective, and it’s gorgeous to see! However this only makes it all the more heartbreaking as he truly comes to accept that in order to save his life he needs to take hers. And his torment only increases as he learns that his fate is tied to Underworld General and the only things in his life that he holds precious – his brothers.

With all of the secrets between them, and with death looming, I was madly flicking pages, trying to figure out how the whole thing was going to be resolved. Tied into Wraith and Serena’s story is a new bad guy, Byzamoth, who is also after not only Serena’s charm but also the object that she guards in order to bring about an epic battle between heaven and hell.

Eidolon and Shade play a big part in the story, of course, as does fallen angel Reaver, and Lore, a newly introduced character that I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of. Also getting a lot of time in this one is Kynan and Gem… OMG, what a rollercoaster ride these two went on! I was cheering one minute, only to be screaming with frustration or weeping with despair at others. I loved their story though, and am beyond thrilled with how everything turned out. I’m expecting big things for the future of these two, and can’t wait to see where their story goes from here.

I found this book to be a lot more emotional than the previous books. Parts of it had me squeeing with joy, while others left me shocked and stunned, or completely broken hearted and crying. Wraith and Serena’s story made me feel it all, and everything in between. There is heaps of action, a healthy dose of smut, and some gorgeously swoony moments. And with lots of time spent with all of the characters that I love, in a paranormal world that I adore, and an absolutely kickass ending featuring a battle to save the world, what more could I ask for?!

I absolutely loved it, and can’t wait for more. 5 stars all the way.
