Review

The second book in the Lords of Deliverance series gives us the story of second Horseman (woman), Limos, and sexy human, Arik, and OMG, it was a sensational ride from start to finish. I absolutely loved it!

When they met in the last book, Arik was a smartass, so Limos took him to the floor, straddled him and crushed his ribs with her thighs. Since then, they have been unable to forget about each other.

Arik features in the Demonica series – he is Runa’s brother, and so we alreadly know a bit about him, his background, and his badass, yet gorgeously protective nature. He is a soldier in the R-XR (the Military’s paranormal unit) and is working closely with Kynan and the Aegis to prevent Armageddon. The first Horseman’s Seal has already been broken and Reseph (now Pestilence) is on the rampage, creating massive devastation in the human world.

Limos, is the single female Horseman of the Apocalypse. She and her brothers are on the hunt for her agimortus, the instrument that, if destroyed, will break her Seal and turn her evil (she becomes ‘Famine’) and trigger the Apocalypse. She is a fierce and strong warrior, however she is hiding some MAJOR secrets and is determined that nobody discover them less they learn of a devastating betrayal thousands of years ago. There is also the little fact that she is betrothed to Satan – yep, the Dark Lord himself. She even wears a chastity belt with a nasty little trick that ensures that no other man can touch her.

When Arik makes a bold move and kisses her, he gets dragged to hell – literally – where he is tortured mercilessly by demons. Upon his rescue, Limos takes him back to her home and nurses him back to health, and Arik joins her and her brothers as they hunt for her agimortus, and for a way to stop the looming disaster.

I love how Arik fits in with Limos and her brothers. Ares and Thanatos are dangerously protective of their little sister, and look down their noses at the ‘human’, but Arik can more than hold his own, and the banter is brilliant.

“What else would they be?”
“No idea.” Arik shrugged … “Aliens, mabye?”
“Aliens.” Thanatos’s voice was flat, disbelieving.
“Your scepticism is funny, coming from one of the Four fucking Horsemen of the Apocalypse.”

I love the romance in this one! There is a strong focus on the developing relationship with Arik and Limos, and even with everything that stands in their way, neither of them can fight their attraction for too long. They’re upfront about how they feel, they’re both determined to have each other, and they don’t let anything stand in their way.

“I know what those fuckers were capable of, and I would never wish that on you”
Her throat worked on a swallow. “What
do you wish on me?”
“Me,” he said with brutal honesty. “Fool that I am, I wish
me on you. Like, on you.”

And as Limos revels in the feelings she’s never felt before, she finds herself falling hard for the sexy soldier.

“You make me feel like a woman. Like I’m not a big, bad warrior who has to stay strong all the time. I like how your strength lets me relax so I can be the person I want to be instead of the one I’m expected to be.”

But they still have her evil brother after them, as well as Satan himself, who is determined to claim his bride, plus there are the devastating secrets that Limos is hiding. It’s an intense ride as everything plays out, but bonus points to Arik for being so freaking sensational and standing by his girl through everything. I love him!

We get to see the entire Demonica crew, and there are some significant developments in Reaver’s story (I’m starting to develop a bit of a theory there). The next book is also set up brilliantly as the next Horseman, Thanatos, is introduced to sexy Aegis slayer, Regan. There are some major sparks flying between the two of them as Regan moves into Than’s house to conduct ‘research’. But there are secret plots, and some shocking events with very unexpected consequences. I can’t wait to get to their story!!

I utterly adore this series, and I love the way Ione writes. The story is complex, and very involved, but the pacing is perfect! The action is intense from start to finish, and with so much going on, I was hooked from page one and unable to put the book down. The intricacies of the plot are revealed all the way through the book and I had many sweary moments as the story twisted and turned until the massive bomb that was dropped at the end. OMFG!!!

These books are funny, romantic, and action-packed. The paranormal world Ione has created is phenomenal, and I encourage anybody who loves PNR to give these books a try – but be sure to start with the Demonica series first.

And now, I’m straight on to the next book. Woohoo!
