Review

An epic, epic farewell to one of my favourite PNR series EVER!

Full of action, romance, humour and emotion, Jeaniene Frost has given us a fantastic send off for her much-beloved characters.

5 massive stars!

Before starting this book, I would recommend reading the novella Home for the Holidays. It has some pretty significant story progression in it, with a twist which continues on in this one – plus, it’s just a great read!

This book finds Cat and Bones having had a few months of peace and quiet, and thoroughly enjoying it. Their tranquillity is interrupted when they discover that Cat’s old team is missing. Going off to investigate, they discover treachery that runs way deeper than they could have imagined, and in order to avoid an all-out species war, they have to gather the whole crew back together to save the day.

When I say ‘the whole crew’, I mean everybody. Yes, we get to catch up with all of the major players over the series. They may not play a major part, but if they’ve been significant to the story in some way, they are in this book, and I absolutely loved it! Ian, in particular, gets a number of chances to shine, which is fantastic, because I adore him! The “conscienceless slut” has a number of big moments – both hilarious and emotional. He’s awesome.

But it’s all about Cat and Bones, and they are a sensational team – taking each other’s backs as they do what they do best and prove, once again, that they are THE powerhouse couple of paranormal romance.

“What we felt for each other couldn’t be reasoned with, controlled, or tamed.”

Together for years, they are still madly in love and totally hot for each other, but they still fight like any married couple, and I love that they have that touch of normality about them. But there is never any doubt that they are perfect together. I absolutely adore them.

“I love you, Kitten.”
How puny those words seemed compared to the feelings strafing mine, but his voice vibrated as he said them. Then he crouched beside me.
“I would never hurt you … save for one reason: to keep you safe. I can live with your anger, your retribution…bloody hell, despise me if you must, but don’t expect me to behave as though you aren’t the most important thing in my life. You are, and I will let no one, yourself included, bring you to harm.”

Oh Bones… you are truly incredible. And probably my favourite vampire ever.

The story moves at a great pace, and I was glued to my kindle from start to finish. The action is intense, full on, and always interesting, and I was on the edge of my seat through most of it! It’s all disgustingly descriptive, but still highly entertaining – including a fight with body parts… actually, more than one. I think they may have even topped their body count with this one!!

“We were never properly introduced,” I said in a vicious purr. “I’m the Red Reaper, and you’re dead.”

There are twists and surprises – even at this late stage in the series – and I loved the way it all played out, and the way it ended was just perfection. Bravo Jeaniene Frost! I am one satisfied little reader!

I am so sad that there will be no more big adventures for Cat and Bones, but I can honestly say that I have loved every single book in this series, and I know that it’s one that I will go back and reread and enjoy over and over again. I’m not ready to say goodbye to all of these characters yet, and I can only hope that we’ll see them soon… one way or another.

“Everyone… we’ll see you again, some soon, some later, but as vampires say, until again.”

5 massive (but still a bit teary) stars.
