Review

4 fiery and explosive stars

Book 3 in the Night Prince series, this book is full of all of the action, snark, humour, romance (and sex) and paranormal awesomeness that I love so much about Jeanine Frost’s writing.

This book picks up shortly after the end of the last book, with Vlad and Leila now married and still adjusting to life together. Vlad is Vlad, and Leila is still struggling with his control freakery and his almost pathological need to protect her. But she’s a strong heroine, and their relationship dynamic is brilliantly entertaining.

“Compromise Lesson One: Pull a dick move, and your dick gets denied. Every woman knew that, and now, so did the vampire sitting next to me.”

After the discovery that Vlad’s most reviled enemy is still after him, the action is pushed up a notch and all hell breaks loose. Death, destruction, torture and betrayal, it’s all happening, and OMG it’s intense! Physically and emotionally, Leila and Vlad go through so much in this book, and some of it is really awful to read, but ultimately it brings them together even stronger than they were before and I loved watching the development not only of their relationship, but of them personally.

“You aren’t just my weakness, Leila.” Vlad drew me next to him, one hand sliding along my jaw while the other caressed my back. “You are my destruction, because if I were to lose you, it would finish me.”

OMG, I love Vlad! He’s such an arrogant ass but he knows it, he totally owns it, and he is completely unapologetic.

“I want a hardened man, not a mass-murdering, pathologically vengeful one,” Vlad said. “There’s only room for one of those in my line right now, and that’s me.”

And the fact that he is who he is and all that he is capable of makes seeing him vulnerable and in love is so, so gorgeous. He opens up beautifully to Leila, and I melted every time he got romantic. And then there’s the sex – which is more than just sex, there’s an incredibly strong emotional connection between them now and holy hell, they are so hot together!

“You’re mine,” he breathed against my neck when his lips left mine to travel lower. “Forever. Say it.”
“I’m yours,” I swore, the words ragged from passion. “Forever. Now, take me and prove it.”

I am loving this series! And I’m really looking forward to more to come with book 4 due to be released next year.

A fantastic, highly entertaining read – 4 stars.

These books are a spin from the Night Huntress series.  This series is one, continuous story and obviously these books need to be read in order, but they fit in after book #6.5 of the Night Huntress series (with the first two books taking place before book #7).
