This was a reread for me, and I loved it just as much the second time around, if not more! And there are two words that explain why \u2013 Daemon Black. Hot damn!<\/p>\n

Daemon is the snarky, sarcastic, uber-hot, badass, jerk-like alien-next-door to Katy, who is new to town. Katy is instantly likable (seeing as though she\u2019s book obsessed), and she becomes fast friends with Daemon’s twin sister, Dee, which gives her a lot of excuses to see her hot, god-like neighbour. And then in true Edward and Bella style, Daemon is there to save her life a few times, and she starts to piece together all of the weird things about her new neighbours, although she can’t quite figure out exactly what is going on. And then the big reveal happens – Daemon and his sister are Luxens – aliens from another planet. But unlike Edward and Bella, after the big reveal, Daemon and Katy remain distant from each other, even though they both want each other. Badly. You see, it’s dangerous for all of them for Luxens to be involved with humans – and they all know this first hand. But it’s so hard to resist\u2026 especially when Katy is a flashing beacon for bad guys after Daemon has saved her so many times, and she needs some hot-alien protecton \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

Even though it’s YA the sexual tension in this book is off the freaking charts as Daemon and Katy exchange long and meaningful glances and banter back and forth, exchanging some epic quips. There’s a brief moment of hotness which has all the little fan-girls squeeing with excitement (myself included), but otherwise, the whole book is a simmering pot of ‘JUST GET IT ON ALREADY!!!’<\/p>\n

The humour is sharp and witty, the characters are great \u2013 be they good or evil, and there’s some seriously cool action going on which leads up to an epic fight scene at the end that will have you frantically flipping pages, gasping in shock and swooning as we finally get a glimpse of the romance to come.<\/p>\n

And so concludes my very first alien book. Of course, you could very easily substitute in ‘vampire’ or ‘werewolf’ or ‘angel’ and it would slot nicely into the YA PNR genre, but I like that its aliens, because it gives the story a bit of a different twist. Plus these particular aliens have seriously cool powers!<\/p>\n

I absolutely love this book, and can’t wait to get on with the rest of the series!<\/p>\n

As a little treat – Armentrout has included some extras at the end of the paperback from Daemon’s POV, and there are also extras available on her website. I highly recommend hunting these down and reading them, they really give you a good indication of where Daemon\u2019s head is at, and provides a completely different angle on certain scenes within the book – chapter 26 included \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n
