He’s a demon and a mercenary for hire, known as the “Kingmaker”, but he is haunted by one decision he made that cost his brother his throne. Since then, he has dedicated the last 900 years of his life to helping Rydstrom reclaim his crown as Demon King.

I love Cade! Cocky, arrogant, sarcastic and sexy as all hell, he’s my favourite type of hero, but he has also shown that he has a big heart. Demons have one fated mate, and Cade’s mate just happens to be human. Demons cannot mate with humans so he’s spent the year since he identified his human mate watching over her and protecting her from harm (awwww).

Holly is a unique heroine. A highly intelligent math geek, she is reserved and innocent, living a very sheltered life. She suffers from OCD, is germophobic, and has some serious control issues, she also has a wild sexual appetite which has led her to avoid anything even remotely sexual, less she lose control and hurt somebody. She has no knowledge of the Lore, and she chalks up her unique ‘differences’ as quirks.

Everything changes when Holly is revealed to be not only part of the Lore, but a vital part of Lore mythology – a “vessel” destined to give birth to the ultimate warrior – whether that warrior will fight on the side of good or evil depends entirely on who the father is. Holly’s very life is in danger with everybody after the chance to knock her up, but it’s Cade who whisks her away to join him on his journey to retrieve the only weapon that can take down the being that has usurped his brother’s throne.

“I want Holly to experience life. To take away the blinders she has so assiduously relied on. I think you’re just the type of person to show her what she doesn’t know and doesn’t want to know. My niece is innocent in so many ways, and there comes a time in a woman’s life when innocence is merely a euphemism for ignorance.”

It’s a wild adventure which is action packed and full of the supernatural awesomeness that makes up this series. But it’s also a sensational road trip featuring two people (beings?) that are complete opposites – Cade who wants Holly badly and makes that blatantly known, and Holly who is disgusted by Cade and everything he represents, and wants nothing to do with him. Their ‘relationship’ is highly antagonistic and the sexual tension is running high, and it’s an absolute blast!

“With a sigh, she asked, “Why do you care if I believe you or not?”
“Because if you think I got a leg over with that slag, then the chance of anything sexual with you will be drastically reduced.”
Without looking up, she said, “Cadeon, a chance can’t be reduced from zero.”
“Gods, I love it when you talk mathy to me.”

Cade is sensational with Holly. He’s gentle when he needs to be, but he’s not afraid to push, and he slowly starts to introduce her to the wild world that she is now a part of. And Holly’s transformation from geeky math tutor to badass warrior is fantastic! And the romance is great. Hot as all hell of course – Cade is a demon in the sack (hehe) and when Holly is let of her leash, watch out! And you can see them start to fall for each other as the book progresses, and they are really gorgeous together.

“You’ve known I was your female for a year?” He nodded. “Why would I be chosen for you?”
“Fate decides . . . who I can be most satisfied with.”
Nibbling her lip, she asked, “Have you slept with anyone else since you knew it was me?”
“Gave a halfhearted try for a witch . . . she wanted a werewolf instead.”
There was no getting around it–Holly was jealous of the witch.
But then Cadeon said, “And I wanted you.”

But what will happen when Cade’s fight to claim his mate interferes with the debt he owes his brother? And how will Holly react when his secrets are finally revealed?

This book is exciting, fast moving, laugh-out-loud funny and highly entertaining, and I absolutely loved it! Cade and Holly are great characters, and I loved their journey. Shout out, too, to Nix and Regin who make some brilliantly scene stealing appearances, they always make me laugh. The story leads in nicely to Rydstrom’s book up next – there’s already something going on there… I can’t wait to get to it.

Great fun – 5 stars.

For full series info, see our Immortals After Dark series page.

Buy: Kindle Ebook | Paperback | Audio Review 5 stars The sixth book in the Immortals After Dark series, this book is great fun with lots of adventure, and I loved it!
