Pure AWESOME!

Warning – this review is long, gushy and overly quotey. But if you’re a KA fan, you’ll totally understand why I just don’t care!

Own the Wind tells the story of Tabby – feisty daughter of Chaos Motorcyle Club President Kane ‘Tack’ Allen from Motorcycle Man – and smokin’ hot Chaos biker, Parker ‘Shy’ Cage. Tabby has been in love with Shy since she was 16 years old. He is 5 years older and a total manwhore, but takes a (platonic) interest in the wild teenager and steps in to try and teach her a lesson and mend her party-hard ways. It doesn’t exactly work out as planned and Tabby, being the stubborn little thing that she is, and knowing how to hold an epic grudge, completely shuts him out. Their lives take them in different directions, although their ties to Chaos ensures that Shy is able to (slightly less platonically) watch Tabby’s life unfolding from afar. When Tabby is at rock bottom and finds herself in a nasty situation, Shy is the one she calls, and he is there for her without hesitation.

“I’d like to know why you dialed my number tonight, but if you don’t wanna share that shit, that’s cool too. I’ll just say, babe, I’m glad you did. You need a safe place just to forget shit and escape, I’ll give it to you. Tonight. Tomorrow. Next week. Next month. That safe place is me, Tabby.”

From there a beautiful friendship develops as Shy helps her through a traumatic time in her life. And of course all of the old feelings resurface (SQUEEEEEE!), and after allowing the UST to build for a bit, it all explodes, and holy hell it’s HOT!!! Shy is very definitely one determined KA Alpha, and as soon as Tabby gives him an opening, he is right in there takes what he wants, no mucking around. And bring on the sexy time! There’s heaps of steam in this book, and it’s all tied in beautifully with the emotion between them.

“Promise me, right now, my dick still inside you, you naked on top of me in bed, us sharing what we just shared, us having a taste of what it’s like apart and knowin’ we’re better together, you won’t leave me.”

“I have never, not once, not in my life, made love to any woman. Not once. Not until what I just did with you.”

I loved seeing these two together! Tabby and Shy fall hard and they fall fast. They are both strong characters who speak their minds, and have their faults, but they are completely accepting of each other, and absolutely there for each other, not afraid to put their feelings out there. And it’s all incredibly functional and super swoony.

“May feel like you’re falling’, Tabby, but remember, I’m at the bottom ready to catch you.”

But Shy is a biker, committed to his club, and having grown up in the middle of Chaos, Tabby understands the rules of her world only too well. And so they both know the drama that them being together may cause – one of the brothers taking up with the President’s daughter… and them surrounded by a bunch of badass bikers that all feel like they’ve had a hand in raising Tabby.

And can I just say, the scenes where all of that goes down are some of THE MOST EPIC VERBAL SMACKDOWNS I HAVE EVER READ! Seriously! Tabby goes off, then Shy goes off, and together they stand strong and just let it rip, and it was INCREDIBLE! I was alternately cheering and squeeing. It took me forever to get through that part of the book because I kept going back and rereading sections of it, making sure I took it all in. Absolutely brilliant! And through it all Shy is completely open how he feels about Tabby. He puts her first, never disrespecting her, and is gorgeously protective of his girl.

“Shy, she’s yours, that’s what you say. Control your woman,” High demanded. “Get her ass out.”
My eyes went to Shy to see him looking at High, and he wasn’t looking pissed. He was looking reflective. Then he said, “Tab and I don’t play it that way. You wanna order your old lady around, do what you do, not for me to say. I asked her to go, she didn’t go. Not gonna make her. But you try, you’ll deal with me.”
God, I loved my guy.

“Honestly? I do not give one fuck what you or any member decides to do to me. What I give a fuck about is that you’re puttin’ my woman through the fuckin’ ringer a year after she went through the fucking’ ringer and, brother, I am not down with that.”

Tack studied him. Then quietly, he stated, “She’s my only daughter, man.”
“And she’s the only woman I’ve ever loved, Tack,” Shy shot back instantly.

There was lots of fist pumping and “FUCK YEAH’s” going on in my house during all of this!

It all continues on from there and Tabby and Shy are absolutely incredible together. She is sassy and stubborn, he is a sexy-as-all-hell KA Alpha and both of them madly in love with each other – what’s not to love? The story is told from both of their POVs (WIN!), and throughout the book we get to see heaps of those little moments between a couple that KA does so well. The swoony, the fiery, and the downright hilarious.

“Righty ho, biker boss,” I muttered quickly and Shy’s eyes narrowed.
“Don’t be fuckin’ cute and, honest to God, if you lick your lip, I’ll lose my mind. Next time you lick your lip you do it when we are nowhere near a public place and I can let loose the reaction I’ve had half a million fuckin’ times over four fuckin’ years every time I’ve seen you do it, not here, in a bookstore where I can’t. “

“You’re the fuckin’ shit, Tabby.”
“I know,” I told him airily on another smile. “My man tells me that all the time.”
His eyes dropped to my mouth and his lips ordered, “Kiss me, baby.”

And then there was the failed fridge buying incident which descended into an all out brawl and had me in hysterics.

“I told him to stop being so bossy.
He told me I sucked bossy dick and never complained unless I wasn’t getting my way, so I needed to get over it.
Of course, at this, my head nearly exploded.”

The pacing of the story is fantastic, and I was sucked in from the very beginning. The focus is very much on the romance storyline, which, of course, has a HEA and a gorgeous epilogue. There is lots of time with Tyra, Tack and the other boys in the club, and there is some action, but it doesn’t really start to ramp up until towards the end of the book, leaving us with an ominous sign of what’s to come in future books.

As always, I am in awe of the ability of the incredibly talented Ms Ashley to suck me straight back into her world of romance, humour, brilliant banter, epic swoon, and all kinds of badassery. She is, hands down, my favourite author. I freaking love the way this woman writes, and can’t wait for more from this series.

6 EPIC stars!

One more note – The Chaos series is a spin off from KA’s Dream Man series, and I would suggest reading that first so that you have a bit of background into some of the main players in the story. There is also a Rock Chick tie in, and although you don’t need to have read that series in order for this book to make sense, it will give you a little thrill if you know what’s going on. Plus, they are both phenomenal series and you should read them anyway! And with cameos from Lee, Tex, Hawk, Mitch, Brock, and even Elvira, I was in KA heaven.

The Chaos series

<div data-post-id="17320"
