With no way to reach civilization before spring, Aubrey becomes Jack Gordon’s unwanted roommate. Her hope for rescue is much more desperate when she sees his hostile attitude and violent behavior.

Aubrey and Jack wait out the winter, they grow closer—their delicate friendship blooming into feelings neither of them could have anticipated. But the weather and the wolves aren’t the only dangers in the mountains. As Aubrey uncovers the reason for Jack’s self-imposed isolation, she realizes she’s closer to the story than she imagined—a story that might cost her life.

Review

3 “Lucky” stars!

Aubrey Kent, an intern at the CCRB news station in Seattle, thinks she is was lucky to be chosen to join the news team on a trip to Canada to follow up on lead for a high profile case. She doesn’t think she is lucky anymore when she ends up in a cabin far away from civilization after surviving the horrible helicopter crash in northern Canada.

Upon waking, she meets Jack Gordon, the mysterious stranger that lives in the house. At first, Jack comes across as a harsh, brooding, uncaring individual but it turns out he was Aubrey’s savior and he nursed her back to health. He very slowly starts to warm up to her but with his many mood swings, we get the feeling he is hiding something.

Aubrey desperately wants to get back to her sister to tell her she is still alive, but with increasing snow depths, no electricity, and no car to drive the 40+ miles to the nearest city, it doesn’t seem likely that she will be leaving the cabin any time soon. Aubrey is having a difficult time understanding why she survived. The guilt she carries is hard to overcome and it seems that Jack understands Aubrey’s situation more than she thought.

“Regret is only for mistakes, things you can’t take back. All you did was live when everyone else died – that’s nothing to regret. So, don’t be sorry, Aubrey. Don’t ever be sorry.”

The more time she spends with Jack, the more emotions start to stir inside of her. Smiles begin to appear between them and before they know it, a spark is lit. The connection they feel is intense and they start to fall hard but what happens when the little bubble they have been living in pops?

Trapped was an enjoyable read that had just enough suspense to keep you on your toes. I liked the romance between the characters though I wished the book spanned a longer time frame to make the relationship more believable. Once Aubrey and Jack opened up and trusted each other, they were good together.

“I’m in love with you, Aubrey.”
…
“I know it isn’t logical, but I can’t help what I feel. I’ve heard people talk about it, read about it, and seen it in movies, and I ended up falling into every cliché anyway.”

Aubrey was a really sweet girl and I liked how caring she was especially when she wanted her sister to know she survived so her sister wouldn’t feel the pain of losing a sibling. Jack was a mystery and though I had an idea where the story was going, I still liked the way things were revealed. He grew on me because I knew he had a past that shaped him and his actions.

The story isn’t only about the sweet romance and there are some intense moments toward the end of the book that left my heart hammering. The situation was well written and I was nervous about the outcome. I am not sure how I feel about the ending because don’t think this story is finished. Even though it didn’t really end on a cliffhanger, I do think that it leaves the story open and I hope that there is more. I would like to see what the future holds for Aubrey and Jack!

“I know it’s a terrible thing to say, but that crash was the best thing that ever happened to me because it brought you to me.”

*ARC generously provided by the author and IndieSage PR in exchange for an honest review*

Excerpt

“Why are you being so forthcoming?” Jack’s eyes opened to find mine.
