The wait between books may be painful, but the story that we are getting is totally worth the wait!

Being the fourth book, this review is going to have some series spoilers in it, so if you haven’t read the Covenant series, it’s probably best to look away now. And while you’re looking away, go and pick up Half-Blood and make a start – do it, do it NOW!

It’s straight back into the story from the very start, and I was sucked in from the first paragraph. It picks up from the ending of Elixir, and we’re back into Alex’s POV as she deals with the effects of her Awakening

Spoiler

and the fact that she’s a total Seth-zombie, linked to the first Apollyon, completely obsessed with “My Seth” and blindly following his evil will.

“There’s nothing creepier than having a psychotic Apollyon caged in the basement.”

Of course she breaks the bond – otherwise the book would have been boring as all hell – and comes back to herself to discover that Seth and Lucien are on the rampage (with a little help from an unlikely source), and the world is going to hell as the gods try to prevent the linking of the two Apollyons and the resulting creation of ‘the God killer’.

What follows is an exciting adventure as our little group of awesome (including the always amazing Apollo, Deacon and Marcus), do everything they can to protect Alex, and prepare for the big battle to come, while Alex goes off on an adventure of her own, learning what her role will be in the final showdown.

Standing strong by her side is my favourite Sentinel, Aiden. OMG, this man is incredible! Obviously having had enough of the Breed Order which says they can’t be together, he lets it all show – and it’s amazing. He loves Alex deeply, is totally committed to her, and never loses faith in her. Alex is a strong and stubborn heroine, and I love that Aiden embraces that, accepts her for who she is and supports her the whole way. But he is also beautifully protective of his girl.

“I can’t believe Apollo hit me with a god bolt.”
“I can’t believe Aiden punched him.”

There is a lot of Alex and Aiden time in this one, with the two of them off adventuring together, and I loved every minute of it! Together are a powerhouse, and whether they are laughing, teasing, fighting or just being there for each other, I loved all of the gorgeous little moments that they have. And the swoon… OMG the swoon!! And even a bit of steamy stuff (all very YA, but still sensational).

“He was there. Like always, holding me up when I couldn’t stand and letting me go when he knew I needed him to. He was more than just a shelter. Aiden was my other half, my equal.”

The big mystery in this book is Seth. Although we don’t see a lot of him, there are some huge developments going on here, and I have so many theories running through my head right now. I’ve gotta say that I still love Seth, and I really feel for him in this one.

Spoiler

And even though he’s acting like a right lunatic at the moment, I have hope that he will come good in the end!

This book reads like a continuation straight on from the previous books, and there’s not a lot of rehashing of the details from past stories. This can either be a good thing or a bad thing. A lot of people don’t like the repetitiveness of rehashing, but if you don’t remember the details of previous books, you may struggle with some parts of this one. I had a lot of ‘oh, that’s right’ going on while I read.

I really loved this book. There is romance, drama, action and humour, and some huge ‘OMG’ revelations that had my head spinning and theorising like crazy. The stage is set brilliantly for the big, epic finale, and I cannot wait!

“We’re in this together, Alex. Don’t ever forget that. We’re in this together to the end.”

4.5 stars

Covenant Series

<div data-post-id="14945" class="insert-page
