Whoa, what an ending! I love this series! A fantastic blend of YA PNR, dystopia, action, horror, humour and romance, it has it all, and the trilogy has ended in sensational style!<\/p>\n

4.5 stars.<\/b><\/p>\n

The story picks up very shortly after the ending of\u00a0The Eternity Cure<\/a>. If it\u2019s been a while since you\u2019ve read the last book, it might be worthwhile having a flick through, or at least reading the last couple of chapters. There isn\u2019t much a recap in this one, with the story pretty much continuing straight on.<\/p>\n

When we rejoin Allison, she is travelling with her companions , Kanin and Jackal, on the road to the last vampire\/rabid-free community in the US – Eden. Reeling from the events at the end of the last book, they are hunting Sarren in order to kill him \u2013 slowly and painfully \u2013 both for vengeance and, more importantly, to stop him before he can destroy the world.<\/p>\n

After fighting against her base instinct for so long, suffering from a personal trauma has left Allie broken and no longer fighting to conceal her inner monster. Instead she is letting it loose and embracing her vampiric nature in an effort not to feel.<\/p>\n

I was a vampire, and I knew the outcome of this hunt. It was so easy to release my human conscience and emotions, to let the monster guide the way. I didn\u2019t know why I\u2019d been so stubborn. Trying to remain human had brought nothing but pain. I would not open myself up to that kind of hurt again.\u00a0<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And she gets plenty of opportunity to let her inner demon out! The evil and psychotic bad guy leads them into all sorts of bloody encounters as he has left a trail of destruction and gore behind him, with booby traps, zombie-like rabids, and painfully personal confrontations along the way \u2013 including one big shocker that was actually pretty easy to predict, but still had me cheering at the twist that it brings to the story.<\/p>\n

It also brings the heart and soul to the story, with lots of feels, and it all ties in nicely with the theme of the choices we make in life, and although it gets a bit angsty at times, the characters are pretty quick to move on. There\u2019s no time for angst when there is so much action going on!<\/p>\n

Kagawa does an amazing job in describing the bleakness and devastation of her world. It\u2019s dangerous and scary, and graphically violent and gruesome, but it all adds to the mood of the story and she builds the anticipation brilliantly as our determined team each get the opportunity to show their epic badassery as they fight through horrific circumstances in an effort to save the day.<\/p>\n

Huge shout out to the side characters \u2013 the amazingly noble and soulful Kanin who is such an incredible character, and the fabulously sarcastic asshat, Jackal who pretty much steals the book. I love him so much! He is unapologetically bad, is always quick with a witty observation and does a brilliant job of lightening the story.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m still going to eat them. How much is going to depend on how seriously they piss me off by the time I get in there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, isn\u2019t that sweet,\u201d came Jackal\u2019s loud, mocking voice… \u201cLet\u2019s make goo-goo eyes at each other in the middle of a stinking corpse field, how very romantic.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ahhh, yes. The question of romance. Well…<\/p>\n

\u00a0I am happy to report, that YES, there is romance. And it\u2019s absolutely gorgeous! It\u2019s very YA, but it\u2019s soul deep, very affectionate, and left me swooning.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, this is me, all of me, forever. No more looking back. No more regrets. From now on, vampire girl-\u201d he lowered his head, brushing his lips across my skins \u201c-I\u2019m all yours.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

The writing is gripping, and the whole story leads up to an absolutely thrilling ending which had me fighting tears and on the edge of my seat. It\u2019s incredibly intense, but definitely worthy of everything that the trilogy has been building towards. Will everybody be happy \u2013 possibly not \u2013 but even though it made me cry, it all makes sense and I was satisfied with how it ended up.<\/p>\n

I loved it! And absolutely recommend this series to fans of YA paranormal romance.<\/p>\n
