He has one only one personal relationship in his life – a woman he tried to pick up on line that didn’t work out like he expected, and over the course of 6 months, he and Alyssa have developed a ‘sort of’ friendship, communicating over text, email and phone conversations but they’ve never actually met. Their discussions mainly revolve around their work, but there is also some highly sexualised banter and flirting that is both hilarious and crudely hot.

“What do you look like?”
“I look like a man who wants to fuck you.”

“What if the real reason I don’t want to meet you is because I’m ugly?”
“I have a good feeling that you’re not”
“But if I was”
“I’d fuck you with the lights off.”
“I prefer the lights on”
“Then I’d make you wear a paper bag over your head.”

I am so fascinated by their dynamic! As cold and harsh as it may seem, there is a genuine appreciation and attraction between them that goes beyond the physical. But when they actually meet and Andrew discovers that Alyssa has been lying to him all along, his fury causes him to lash out, then it’s all on! And amidst all of the fury and cruelty, of course there is angry, passion-filled sex. HOTNESS!!!

The ending is unexpected, and with no clue what’s actually going on between these two, and exactly what secrets they are keeping, it’s a great set up for the next book. We get to know Aubrey better, as well as seeing a little bit of the drama of Andrew’s past, and that final bombshell is a shocker!

I’m really looking forward to seeing how it’s all going to finish up, and hoping that we don’t have to wait too long for the next one!

4 stars.

Reasonable Doubt: Vol 3

4.5 stars for the big, satisfying finish!

I, like a lot of readers, have been sitting on the cliffy of RD2 for a while now, and I am so happy that this final installment met all of my expectations, finishing off Andrew and Aubrey’s story beautifully.

Andrew Hamilton. Wow. After his devastating dick-move at the end of RD2, his assholishness is still in full effect as he continues to push Aubrey away, intending to return to his manwhoring ways. Honestly, the man is a dick. He is painfully cruel to Aubrey, and comes off like a callous bastard.

“I actually miss when I was Alyssa and you were Thoreau.”
“Back when you were a fucking liar?”
“Back when you treated me better…”

But through every excruciatingly painful encounter, we still love him. And that is because behind it all, we can see that there is so much more to him, and throughout this book his full back story is finally revealed. Even though it has been hinted at in the earlier books, when it all comes out, my heart broke for him! I can understand his devastation, and how the events of his past have made him the way he is. So yeah, he’s a dick… just a confused one.

And bravo to Aubrey for standing strong and not being a doormat! She wants Andrew, but she’s not prepared to be treated like crap in order to have him. She is understandably shattered by his actions, but she really takes charge of her life in this book, and I was so proud of her! And even when he tries to come back into her life, she makes him work for it. You go girl!

“You would have to beg me to take you back, Andrew. Fucking beg me.”

And OMG, the man can grovel! The development of his character in this book is nothing short of spectacular as he is forced to live a life without Aubrey and starts to realise exactly what she means to him. And when he decides that he wants her – for real this time – nothing is going to stand in his way.

“I fucking love you, Aubrey… And I’ll do whatever it takes to show you that.”

I was stunned and thrilled at his turnaround – the arrogant, dirty talking asshole actually made me swoon with his actions and declarations. Fighting or fucking, the passion is intense, and every little moment between them is electric!

“You’re going to show me to your room so you and I can become reacquainted.”
“Reacquainted? It’s a great conclusion with all of the drama, passion and steaminess that I have come to expect, and it completely wraps up Andrew and Aubrey’s story.
