One soul I’d always belonged to.

Every time I read a book by Mia Sheridan I am blown away. Her gorgeous words evoke so much emotion and really bring on the feels. I am continually impressed with the depth of her stories and Preston’s Honor is another one that will remain close to my heart.

This story leads you on a rollercoaster of emotion that is at times hard to handle but well worth it in the end, and I loved it. I am still in awe at how deeply it moved me. It made me feel every emotion I could think of. Nervousness, guilt, shame, betrayal, pain, resentment, bitterness, frustration, joy, love, happiness, excitement, I felt it all.

This story is about three people who profoundly affect each others’ lives. Preston and Cole Sawyer are twins, raised on a farm living a life of privilege. Wanting for nothing, their lives are completely different than the one Annalia Del Valle leads. The daughter of a single mother who at one time worked for the Sawyer family, Annalia has never had much to call her own. Though from different worlds, friendships between the twins and Annalia form at a young age and each bond is independently strong. As they grow older, innocent friendships become more setting off a chain reaction that changes the lives of all three characters.

I absolutely loved this book. Even if I was left with a massive book hangover, this riveting book was well worth it. The plot, the characters, the emotion, I loved it all. Written in dual POVs, I loved getting both sides of the story, and boy, were they utterly heartbreaking in their own way. The character development was extremely well done. Preston and Annalia were complex and both go through fantastic growth that made the story what it is.

Annalia is so strong and independent. Her childhood shaped who she was and I was moved by the way she lived her life. She was selfless and loving, always thinking of others first. She was beautiful inside and out and I truly believed in her kindness. For Annalia, there was only one boy who set her heart on fire, who she loved completely no matter the circumstances, and who she wanted to share her forever with. That boy was Preston. The connection between him and Annalia was amazing, and I treasured their beautiful friendship and the love that grew from it.

Part of my love for Preston was like a slow-moving river that had gained breadth and speed over time. And another part came in short bursts of white-hot lightening, marking the very moments when the love in my heart had charged and intensified.

Then, when that fierce love was ripped apart, I felt all the pain. So much so that it was hard to catch my breath. I wanted nothing more than for that love to bloom again.

I loved Preston and thought he was amazing. Even from a young age his heart was stunningly beautiful and I felt his desperate love for Annalia. He was so honorable and though it made me elated that he was a man of his word, it broke my heart at the same time. I understood his longing and pain deep within my soul and found myself wanting nothing more than to take it away.

While Preston and Cole were physically identical, I loved the differences between them and the way those differences shaped their futures. Cole was the easygoing funny one while Preston was the more serious brother. Where Cole dreamed of seeing he world, Preston was happy to stay right where he was.

As far as I was concerned, there was nothing more, or at least nothing better. Everything that filled my soul was all around me – the land, the farm, my best friend and brother, and Annalia Del Valle.

I loved Preston and Annalia together. The intensity of their connection will kick start your heart into overdrive. It’s all consuming. Though it is limited, the sexy time is extremely passionate and intense, and the sexual tension, both in the past as well as in the present, is thick with need. I loved when they were overcome with desire and their undeniable chemistry exploded. The longing is so powerful and consuming that I felt it too.

I hadn’t fully realized before this moment that I’d been living with a hole in my heart. A Preston-sized hole.

The romance was gorgeous and packed a large punch. No matter how much hurt they endured, they still couldn’t stop loving each other. It was beautiful even when it was painful, and I loved the forgiveness and trust between them.

“I love you,” I breathed, putting every ounce of my heart into the words. “I always have …I loved you this last year and a half, too, even when … I didn’t want to love you anymore. I did it anyway. There’s never been a choice.

I loved the flashbacks and felt they were well-done. As the whole picture was pieced together, my heart continued hurting for both of them. I felt their emotional despair, and the tragedy they endured and the pain the followed shattered my heart.

The way the story was revealed made me invested in the characters and I really felt what they were going through. When everything comes to light, I finally understood what happened. Sometimes no matter how much love two people share, things don’t work out the way you want. Be it timing, situation, some other roadblock or misunderstanding, nothing ever goes as planned and the circumstances surrounding Annalia and Preston broke my heart over and over again.

I don’t know if could have made the same decisions that Annalia made but I get it. I really get it. Though I wish it didn’t happen, I understood why Annalia needed to do what she did.

The gorgeous epilogue based years in the future was a perfect conclusion to this beautifully intense love story. Overall, it is a serious book that was emotionally hard to read. It deals with real life situations and it’s raw and intense, but it is also real and honest. I thought the story was extremely well crafted in Mia Sheridan’s gorgeous writing style and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys when first loves are forever loves.

”I loved you so fiercely that night, Annalia. I want you to know that. I know the ways things happened after that was mostly awful. But we created that little boy in love. When I look at him, with your eyes and my face, that’s what I think. He’s the beauty that came from the ashes.”

*ARC generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.*

Check out our Mia Sheridan Author Spotlight Page for more amazing reads

Buy: Kindle Ebook | Paperback Review 5 “I burn for you” stars Yes, I loved two brothers – identical twins – but it was only one soul that spoke to mine.
