Once again Jay McLean has given us a heart-felt rollercoaster of a story that had me laughing, swooning, crying and raging. Yep, I felt it all, my emotions were swinging all over the place and I was enthralled from start to finish.

At the end of More Than This, Logan dropped a bit of a bombshell. This book picks up a few months after the end of the first book, and once the big bomb is cleared up quickly and efficiently, the story continues on, but flashes back to the summer before College – the summer where Logan met Amanda. Told in dual POV, we get to see Logan’s epic pursuit of Amanda and all of the details of their one date that summer – a date that touched them both deeply and ended up being completely life-changing for both of them. But Logan fucked it up and broke her heart, and so now, a year later when they meet up in College, Amanda wants nothing to do with him.

“The worst part is that you and me—we could have been amazing. We could have had it all, Logan. Everything. And you fucked it up.”

Yep, he did. And, fair play to him, he totally acknowledges it. But Logan is a persistent guy, and when fate brings them together in a way that Amanda can’t avoid, she can’t help but open her heart and fall for him all over again.

“No one else would get it, Amanda. No one else would understand how one fucking night with a virtual stranger changed me. How I never wanted to be close to anybody my entire life. Not until I met you.”

This is a mega-angsty read! There is a lot of push and pull as Logan and Amanda navigate their rollercoaster relationship – both fighting against and caving into the chemistry between them. It’s not an easy ride, and it’s not always happy times and I’m so glad that we get both perspectives throughout all of the drama, so even though there are communication issues between Logan and Amanda, at least we get to know what was going on, and it made my heart hurt for both of them.

I didn’t think I’d have the right words to tell her how fucking sorry I was. For all of it. For being an asshole. For not calling her. For not being there. But mainly, for not being what she thought we could be. What she wanted us to be.

When everything is going right, I love these two together. Absolutely love them! Their connection is intense, they have a wonderfully open, teasing relationship that is both incredibly hot and incredibly meaningful. And there is so much swooooon!

He grabbed my hand and placed it over his heart. “You and me … We’re going to make new memories. Ones that you aren’t afraid of. And it’s going to be amazing.”

They have both have trauma in their pasts, and my heart broke for both of them as they opened up to each other about all that they had been through. Individually, they have shown incredible strength to have moved on, but they were still able to help each other heal and move forward. Logan’s story in particular is absolutely heart-wrenching, and despite the monsters that they have dealt with, I love that the two of them found such peace and happiness together.

“She makes you happy, son?” he asked quietly.
“No,” I said, shaking my head. “She makes me whole.”

And just as I was revelling in all of the romantic bliss and wondering how Jay McLean was going to stretch their story out into another book, she threw in a twist that I didn’t see coming. I thought it was a great move, and I’m looking forward to seeing how that particular storyline plays out. And then comes the angst again, and W.T.F?????

I am usually pretty forgiving of a hero. I will quite often have issues with a heroine pulling stupid moves, but for some reason I allow the guys to get away with so much more. But sadly, not in this case.

“Any asshole that has you, and is stupid enough to lose you, is a fucking idiot, Amanda. Trust me. I would know.”

Uuuuhhhhh, yep!

Warning – spoilery angry rant ahead…

Spoiler

I feel sorry for Logan and all that he is going through, and I can understand that he feels guilty when Amanda gets innocently dragged into the dramas of his past. I get that he feels that he needs to do the right thing and protect her, but once again he takes it too far! And to not even talk to her, he just pulls away – again and again and again!

That final scene with them together broke my heart!

“I want you to want me,” I tell him. “I want you to need me. I want you to fucking choose me. I want you to fight for me. You have to fight for me, Logan! You can’t walk away. Not again.”

This has all of the makings of an epically beautiful romance, but Logan fucked it up too many times. Once, I could forgive, twice is a stretch but he was so perfect afterwards that I happily got swept up in all of the swoon. And then he does the exact same thing it a third time… HELL NO!

There is going to need to be epic grovelling from him after all that he has done to Amanda, because honestly, as much as they may love each other, she deserves better. Logan has his work cut out for him to win back not only Amanda, but me too. I’m so pissed at him right now, I kinda want her to get back with Ty! :

The rest of the cast of characters from the first book are back, as well as some new ones – Amanda’s twin brother, Ethan and his best friend Tristan are both fantastic, and Logan’s Dad is all kinds of awesome! I loved seeing Jake and Kayla still happy together, there is some weird stuff going on with Dylan and Heidi, and once again, Cam and Lucy are total scene stealers as they dirty flirt and tease, and drunken Lucy always makes me laugh.

“I’m not fucking calling you a slut!” She took a step forward. “But if cocks had wings you’d be a fucking airport.”

For the most part, I really enjoyed this book. I laughed a lot at the antics of this crew, and their epic banter and one-liners! The emotion is beautifully portrayed, and the romance was gorgeous with a nice amount of sexy time. For me, it didn’t have the impact that the first book did, but I loved being back with these characters, and getting to know Logan and Amanda. That supremely annoying, cliffhanger ending just killed me though, and although I’m still raging over it, I’m going straight on to the next one.

4 stars.

The More Than series

<img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="2148" data-permalink="https://www.escapistbookblog.com/?attachment_id=2148" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.escapistbookblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/More-Than-This-80.jpg?fit=80%2C122&ssl=1" data-orig-size="80,122" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="More Than This –
