His passion. His everything.

So, when an injury threatens to end Easton’s season early, the team calls in the renowned physical therapist, Doc Dalton, to oversee his recovery. Except it’s not Doc who greets Easton for his first session, but rather his daughter, Scout. She may be feisty, athletic, defiant, and gorgeous, but Easton is left questioning whether she has what it takes to help him.

Scout Dalton’s out to prove a female can handle the pressure of running the physical therapy regimen of an MLB club. And that proof comes in the form of getting phenom Easton Wylder back on the field. But getting him healthy means being hands-on.

And with a man as irresistible as Easton, being hands-on can only lead to one thing, trouble. Because the more she touches him, the more she wants him, and she can’t want him. Bromberg. It’s sexy, sporty, and sweet with a ton of heart. It’s hard to write about a sports player without overdoing the theme but this was well thought out, had just enough sports references, and a beautiful romance to root for.

Easton is the total package when it comes to baseball players. He is the star for the Austin Aces and has great stats, great looks, great smarts, and a great personality. He busted his arm playing ball and now needs major rehabilitation if he ever wants to play again. As far as physical therapy goes, he wants the best, and only the best, and the man that comes to mind is Doc Dalton. However, he is in for a shock when he goes to meet with Doc only to find a beautiful girl instead.

Scout is the new physical therapist working for the Austin Aces and the daughter of Doc Dalton. He couldn’t take the job but he trusts her completely to take his place. She works with injured players in order to get them back on the field and Easton is her new client. She wants to prove herself in the business and land a permanent position on the team and Easton is her ticket…if they can keep things professional.

I loved this book! It’s a great romance that encompasses everything I love: heart, heat, humor, and a well-written storyline. It sucked me in from the prologue and kept me flipping the pages. I loved the plot and was fully invested in the characters early on and they only got more important as the story progressed.

Scout is beautiful, strong-willed, smart, and determined to succeed. She has a huge heart and uses it when making decisions. She is a wonderful person and truly cares about her job. She wholeheartedly wants Easton to heal and reach peak performance again. I felt the pull that drew her to Easton and understood her reservations about crossing the line as she fought her feelings. I don’t think I could have stayed firmly planted on the professional side as long as her if I had Easton vying for my affection.

Easton is pissed about his shoulder and has so much pressure to be great that I felt his frustrations and wanted to see him succeed. His character is complex and well-written and shows that not all is how it seems on the outside.

“Who knew the man who’s got a wicked arm and swagger for days also has such a huge heart?”

I couldn’t have said it better myself; he is just so likable and impressive! He wants back in the game but he also wants Scout and his determination is remarkable. He is so persistent and I loved that he wouldn’t give up.

“The happily ever after depends on what you put into it. The hard work, the listening instead of talking, the laughing instead of crying, the sticking it out instead of running away, the knowing that sometimes silence is best but having her wrapped in your arms can still solve a lot of problems. So, you can have your romance novels while I have my King and Follett and Patterson because I don’t want to read about having that kind of love someday. I’d rather be over here trying to take a chance at it in real life.”

So swoon worthy at times, I loved him!

From the beginning Easton and Scout start off on the wrong foot and their first impressions that couldn’t be further from the truth create such entertaining interactions. The banter is playful and easy going which makes it believable. They can give as good as they get but they also know when they need to be gentle and not push. I felt the spark between them immediately and the way they dance around their attraction is realistic and the progression of their relationship is natural and well-paced.

There’s something about Easton that makes me want when I shouldn’t, need when I needn’t, and desire when I know it’ll be disastrous.

The time they spend together professionally only ignites their need to spend time together off the clock. The sexual tension is palpable and you find yourself waiting for the explosion that is sure to come.

“You’ve been fighting this kiss all day long, and I practiced restraint like you told me to do . . . but right now? Right now, I’m going to kiss you senseless, Scout, and I want to fucking enjoy it. So, for the love of God, woman, use those lips of yours on me and not on words.”

I love how their love was intense and passionate at times but also calmer and comfortable, too. Both Easton and Scout are understanding, non-judgmental, and perfectly complement each other.

I don’t know why I didn’t realize this was part one of The Player Duet when I first started the book. As I approached the ending I knew something big was going to happen because there just wasn’t enough time left to tie up everything that was going on in the story without leaving loose ends. Well, my heart sunk when I realized that it wasn’t a standalone, and after the cliffy that left me stunned, I cannot wait to get my hands on The Catcher. I need answers. Now.

*ARC generously provided by the author and InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.*

The Player Duet

The Player (The Player Duet, #1) by K.
